🌟 13 Years of Shelly! 🌟

Today we’re celebrating a very special milestone—13 years with our incredible Patient Care Coordinator, Shelly! 💜

From the moment you walk through our doors, there’s a good chance Shelly is one of the first smiling faces you’ll see. Her infectious energy, kind heart, and genuine care for our patients help make Siegert Dental feel like home.

For 13 years, she has been the steady voice on the phone, the friendly face at the front desk, and a huge part of what makes our team so special. Whether she’s helping patients navigate their appointments, sharing a laugh, or jumping in wherever needed, she does it all with grace and positivity.

Shelly, thank you for your loyalty, dedication, and the joy you bring to our office every single day. We are so grateful for you and all you do for our team and our patients.

Help us wish Shelly a happy 13th work anniversary! 🎉🎂💐

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

We especially remember our Onalaska heroes, Nick Dewhirst and Adam Servais, whose courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Their legacy lives on in the community they served and the freedom they helped protect.

We are also grateful for those who have served, including our wonderful hygienist, Kelly. Thank you, Kelly, for your service and for continuing to serve others with kindness and care every day.

Today and always, we remember. We honor. We are grateful. 🇺🇸

Happy Birthday to our favorite office duo, Gordie & Nora! One brings the chaos, one brings the judgment… and honestly, we love them equally for it. 🤎🍦

We’re often asked about the safety of dental X-rays — and most people are surprised to learn how much radiation exposure we experience in everyday life. ✈️🍌

Modern digital dental imaging uses very low levels of radiation while giving us critical information we simply can’t see clinically alone. From hidden decay and infections to airway development, jaw growth, impacted teeth, and TMJ concerns… imaging helps us diagnose earlier and plan more precisely.

At Siegert Dental, we take a conservative, airway-centered approach to imaging and follow ALARA principles:
✔️ the right image
✔️ at the right time
✔️ for the right reason

We also utilize advanced CBCT (3D cone beam imaging) when clinically indicated to better evaluate the airway, jaws, bone, and craniofacial structures with greater precision.

Technology should never replace clinical judgment — it should support thoughtful, comprehensive care.

Vivian’s expansion journey is already off to an amazing start! ✨

Before ➡️ After: just 2.5 weeks with her expander, and we’re already seeing beautiful progress as her smile begins to make room to grow.

We’re so proud of Vivian and love celebrating these small-but-mighty milestones along the way. Every smile journey is unique, and this is such a sweet reminder that little changes can make a big difference. 🤍

“Your TMJ is fine.”

Sometimes that’s what patients have been told for YEARS…until we take a deeper look.

A routine CBCT can reveal so much more than teeth alone:
• Underdeveloped jaw growth
• Airway restriction
• Joint asymmetry
• Structural patterns contributing to pain, clenching, headaches, poor sleep, and chronic tension

The body compensates when the airway struggles.
The jaw compensates when the bite is unstable.
And often, patients are left chasing symptoms without ever understanding the why.

This is why we believe dentistry should never be “just teeth.”
When you evaluate the airway, jaw joints, facial growth, and function together…you start seeing the full story.

Because form follows function. And function matters.

A brand-new study in the Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry is putting a spotlight on something we’ve been screening for in our office for years: the connection between a child’s mouth, airway, and sleep.

Researchers from Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School screened 141 healthy kids ages 5–12 during routine dental visits across 9 U.S. cities.

The result? 1 in 5 kids screened positive for sleep-disordered breathing risk.

Not kids referred for a sleep problem.
Not kids already diagnosed.
Kids coming in for cleanings.

The study found that features like a narrow palate, open bite, tongue thrust, and heart-shaped tongue were strongly associated with increased risk.

These are exactly the kinds of signs our team has been trained to look for — and why airway-focused screening has been part of our standard of care for years.

Because dentistry is not just about teeth.
It is about growth, breathing, sleep, and whole-child health.

We are so encouraged to see this getting the attention it deserves. If your child snores, mouth breathes, grinds, tosses and turns, wakes tired, or struggles with focus, it may be time to look deeper.

Your child’s dental visit can reveal more than cavities. It can reveal clues about how they breathe and sleep. 💤🦷

✨ Patient Transformation Tuesday ✨

This case is such a beautiful reminder that orthodontics can be about so much more than straight teeth.

At just 11 years old, this patient was struggling with classic airway and sleep-related concerns:
• Snoring + noisy breathing during sleep
• Chronic mouth breathing
• Waking unrefreshed
• Daytime fatigue + daily after-school naps

After a collaborative treatment approach including:
🦷 Myofunctional Therapy
🦷 Phase I Orthodontics
🦷 Adenoidectomy

…the changes have been incredible.

✔️ Improved nasal breathing
✔️ Resolution of snoring + noisy nighttime breathing
✔️ More daytime energy
✔️ No more daily naps after school
✔️ Orthopedic + dental changes you can SEE in the smile photos

Airway-focused dentistry is about supporting healthier breathing, better sleep, proper growth, and long-term function — with a more harmonious smile being one piece of the puzzle. ✨

We are so proud of this patient’s progress and grateful to be part of their journey. 🤍

Motherhood begins with one tiny person in your arms, and suddenly life becomes full of decisions.

Breastfeeding or bottle feeding. Baby-led weaning or purées. Creating a safe environment, while also letting them safely explore boundaries. Knowing when to hold on and when to let go.

Over the last 16 years of motherhood, I have had many moments where I doubted my decisions, lost sleep, and worried deeply about my children’s well-being.

Over 10 years ago, I left my job in the corporate world to work alongside Jake as he continued his education after dental school, and purchased his own practice. What started as support became so much more — managing marketing, HR, and so much of the behind-the-scenes work that helps our practice serve our community well.

I always joke that the practice is my fourth baby. There are days when operating a business is extremely humbling, but I still find gratitude in those moments. I hope my children are watching and learning resilience, compassion, hard work, humility, and the importance of caring for people well.

To all the moms out there — whether you work outside the home, stay home with your children, run a business, support a family, or are simply doing your very best each day — I see you.

I have so much respect for the work you are doing.

I hope you take time this weekend to sit back, breathe, and celebrate yourself.

Mothers truly are amazing humans. Happy Mother’s Day. 🤍
