Our oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Michael Shnayder, provides treatment for a wide variety of issues relating to the mouth, teeth, and facial regions. Dr. Michael Shnayder practices a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging f

rom dental implant surgery and wisdom tooth removal to facial trauma and oral pathology. This also includes techniques designed to rebuild bone structure with minimal surgical intervention and optimal patient comfort. Our team can also diagnose and provide treatment for facial pain, facial injuries, and fractures. Our caring oral surgeon and team provide excellent customer service in addition to quality surgical services. Many of our patients have anxiety, so we provide a comfortable, calming environment to help them. Our oral surgeon and team work together as a unit, not as individuals. Our office uses the latest in technology so that we can provide you with the best care possible. We use a CT scanner to produce 3D images of your teeth, soft tissues, bone, and nerve pathways in just one scan. This helps us to effectively plan your treatment. We also have a digital impressions machine, which does not use the messy paste of traditional impressions. Since 2011, we have provided oral and maxillofacial surgery in Omaha, Nebraska, and the surrounding areas of Elkhorn, Blair, Bennington, Bellevue, Council Bluffs, Fremont, and Norfolk, Nebraska. We welcome you to contact Village Pointe Oral Surgery today to learn more about us and to schedule an appointment.

Dental Term of the Week: Impacted Teeth ๐Ÿฆท

An impacted tooth is a tooth that doesn't have enough room to erupt properly or becomes trapped beneath the gums or bone. While wisdom teeth are the most common impacted teeth, canines and other permanent teeth can also become impacted.

When wisdom teeth are impacted, they can cause pain, swelling, infection, damage to nearby teeth, or even cysts. In many cases, your oral surgeon may recommend removing them before they cause problems.

For impacted teeth that are important to your smile and bite, such as canines, treatment is often different. An oral surgeon can perform an expose and bond procedure, where the tooth is carefully uncovered and a small orthodontic attachment is placed on it. Your orthodontist can then gently guide the tooth into its proper position.

Every impacted tooth is unique, so the right treatment depends on its location, your age, and your overall dental health.

Have questions about impacted teeth? Our team is here to help. Give us a call to schedule a consultation and discuss the best treatment option for you!

๐Ÿ“–Oral Surgery Terms- Week 2: Dry Socket

You've probably heard someone say they got a "dry socket," but what does that actually mean?

After a tooth is removed, your body forms a blood clot to protect the area and begin the healing process. If that clot becomes dislodged or doesn't form properly, the underlying bone and nerves are exposed. This is called a dry socket, and it can be much more painful than the extraction itself.

The good news? Dry socket is uncommon, and following your post-operative instructions can significantly reduce your risk. Avoid using straws, smoking or va**ng, forceful spitting, and vigorous rinsing during the first few days after surgery. These activities can disturb the blood clot before it has a chance to stabilize.

If your pain suddenly becomes worse a few days after your extraction instead of gradually improving, contact your oral surgeon. Dry socket is treatable, and we're here to help you heal as comfortably as possible.

Have you heard a dental term you'd like us to explain next? Leave it in the comments!
