Did you know PDS and its doctors have dedicated countless hours to improving oral health throughout Nebraska?

Our doctors have helped advocate for the passage of more than 20 oral health bills in the Nebraska Legislature. In 2017, after 10 years of advocacy, their hard work helped bring about an important change: clinical team members could become certified to perform expanded functions.

PDS proudly became one of the first practices in Nebraska to implement these expanded roles through Expanded Function Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists—helping create smoother, more efficient appointments and better experiences for our patients!

We're still celebrating our 50th anniversary with a look back at our history and what made Pediatric Dental Specialists of Greater Nebraska...*of* Greater Nebraska!

In 2011, we expanded our Grand Island practice with a move to a new building along Highway 281! Six treatment chairs, our bold colors and artwork, gaming systems in the reception area, and a beautiful, modern esthetic all work together to give kids and parents a great experience.

In 2012, PDS welcomed Dr. Gary Lehn to the Hastings and Grand Island teams! With eight children of his own, Dr. Lehn’s natural ability to connect with kids—along with his passion for coaching, educating, and caring for others—makes him an incredible pediatric dentist. In 2014, we were thrilled to welcome him as a partner in the PDS organization. His energy is contagious, and you can often hear him singing along with Elsa while creating positive dental experiences for his patients! 😂😉

2010 marked an exciting new chapter for Lockwood and Meeske in Hastings. Dr. Holly Portwood (now Dr. Holly Randone) joined the practice. As the organization prepared for continued growth, the practice was renamed Pediatric Dental Specialists of Greater Nebraska, reflecting its commitment to serving more children and families across the state.

Just one year later, Dr. Randone became a partner. A Beatrice, Nebraska, native, she has dedicated the past 16 years to creating positive dental experiences for children while continually advancing the care PDS provides. Her passion for learning has led to the addition of many new services, including orthodontics and lip and tongue-tie releases.

Most recently, Dr. Randone led the introduction of myofunctional therapy at PDS by supporting dental hygienist Brooke Banzhaf in becoming the organization's first myofunctional therapist. Together, Dr. Randone and Brooke completed extensive training through The Breathe Institute, allowing PDS to expand its comprehensive approach to children's oral health.

Today, Dr. Randone's commitment to innovation, mentorship, and exceptional patient care continues to leave a lasting impact on the organization and the families it serves.

In 2008, Dave Johnson joined PDS as an office manager. His initial role at PDS grew, and he became a large part of the organization's growth.

As the organization grew, Dave became the chief officer of operations and developed a leadership team that included Tenille Rader, Stephanie Schulte, and Whitney Itzen.

Tenille started out in the front office before becoming the Hastings office manager. She is now our regional manager.

Stephanie was hired as a dental assistant, and eventually transitioned to a role in the front office. She is now our human resources manager after completing her Master's in Business Administration.

Whitney began as an orthodontic coordinator when we introduced orthodontic treatment, and then transitioned to office manager in Grand Island. She is now marketing manager for the PDS organization.

The year is 2001, and Dr. Lockwood and Dr. Meeske want to make it easier for parents to bring their children to a pediatric dental practice. The best way to do that was to expand the practice by opening a small satellite location in Grand Island!

Dr. Lockwood and Dr. Meeske officially became full partners and began practicing under the practice name of Lockwood and Meeske Pediatric Dentistry. This partnership was the next foundational piece to the formation of Pediatric Dental Specialists of Greater Nebraska.

In five short years, the Hastings office was bursting at the seams. More parents wanted to make sure their child had the best experience and dental care, and this increased demand prompted an expansion of the Hastings office. They doubled the size of the office, allowing them to schedule more appointments daily.

In 1999, Dr. Jessica Meeske joined Dr. Lockwood's practice and was eager to bring growth and innovation to the practice. She spurred an initiative to move from analog to digital by introducing computers to the practice. This would ultimately save the practice space and time in the years to come (goodbye, messy hand-written calendars and massive filing cabinets!) and set them up for the digital world to come.

Dr. Meeske is still a provider in the Hastings location as well as the Grand Island location.
