What is Socket Grafting?
• Purpose:
1.-To prevent or minimize bone loss in the area where a tooth was extracted.
2.- To almost eliminate the most painful complication after a dental
extraction: the dry socket.
• Procedure: After a tooth is removed, the empty socket is filled with bone graft material (either bone particles or a plug).
• Benefits:
o Preserves bone volume and shape, which is crucial for future dental implants.
o Reduces the need for more extensive bone grafting procedures later.
o Facilitates successful dental implant placement.
o May improve the aesthetics and symmetry of the facial features.
• When it's done: Typically performed at the time of tooth extraction.
• Healing: The graft "matures" into your own bone over a period of 3-6 months.
Why is Socket Grafting Important?
• Bone Loss: When a tooth is extracted, the bone that supported it can start to shrink and thin out (bone resorption).
