A bottle. An old photograph. How much history can an ordinary object hold?
Berkeley-raised artist Mildred Howard has spent five decades exploring that territory. Her collages, found-object sculptures and installations bring personal memory into conversation with African American history.
Mildred Howard: Poetics of Memory is in its final weeks at the Oakland Museum of California, on view through October 18, 2026.
This weekend, October 10–11: 11 am–5 pm.
1000 Oak Street, Oakland.
Adult admission: $25, including the exhibition. Ages 12 and under free. Advance tickets encouraged.
