Dental abfraction is the loss of tooth structure near the gumline caused by mechanical stress. Instead of being caused by tooth decay or acid, the physical flex of the tooth due to biting, clenching, or grinding causes micro-fractures in the enamel, creating characteristic wedge- or V-shaped notches.
