Our hearts are heavy today as we think of the students, families, faculty, and staff of Old Dominion University here in Norfolk, VA.

This tragedy struck very close to home for our team. One member of our clinical team has a son who was inside the building during the incident, and earlier today we had the privilege of caring for two ODU students who then arrived on campus just as the situation began to unfold. We are incredibly grateful that they all are safe.

The ties between Konikoff Family Dentistry and Old Dominion University run deep, and today we stand with the entire ODU community in prayer and support. Please pray for the loved ones of the student who lost their life, the others that are still hospitalized, and our brave first responders who rushed in to protect countless lives.

We are keeping everyone affected in our thoughts during this difficult time.

We are very excited to announce a new member of our team! Carmen Ramirez Sosa, DMD, CAGS has joined Dr. Kristine Barrett at our practice! ✨

Dr. Ramirez began her dental studies at Universidad Santa Maria in Venezuela, graduating in 2007, and earned a Certificate in Esthetic Dentistry from Universidad de Carabobo in 2010. For seven years, she practiced in both private and corporate settings before moving to the U.S., where she completed a Prosthodontics residency at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in 2022. Her expertise includes full-mouth rehabilitation, implant-supported restorations such as All-on-4®, porcelain veneers, and complete and partial dentures.

Dr. Ramirez pursued dentistry to help others improve their confidence and quality of life. She is dedicated to personalized care, with a special focus on complex cases that require both esthetic and functional solutions. Passionate about the life-changing impact of a healthy smile, she strives to make a positive difference for her patients every day. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Ramirez enjoys spending time with her family and her dog, staying active outdoors, and following her favorite sports, particularly Formula 1 and tennis.

We may be a day early, but we’re already in full red, white, and woo-hoo mode! As we continue to celebrate the 4th of July, here are some fun snippets from our Brambleton crew showing off our patriotic spirit and yes, we understood the assignment. 🎇✨

From flag-themed fits and festive treats to spontaneous dance breaks and full-on laughter, today was all about freedom, fun, and family. When we say “family,” we’re not just talking about DNA, we mean the kind of team that shows up for each other, makes work feel like home, and knows how to celebrate the little things big.
