Another Five star review for Sleep Apnea Dentists of New England. Thank you for the great 5 star customer review!
"I’m 79 and have struggled with Complex Sleep Apnea (a combination of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (where my airway closes) and Central Sleep Apnea (where I stop breathing scores of times per hour) for several years. In 2014, I started with a CPAP machine, but still woke frequently and could tolerate the mask for no more than 4 hours, if that. More likely 2 hours. Then, after more sleep studies, the tubing on the machine was changed to counter unhealthy carbon dioxide levels. Then the off-label use of acetazolamide was added to help.
But still the mask stayed on for just a couple of hours a night I was getting about 5 hours of sleep. My doctor on a number of occasions recommended that I be seen at Sleep Apnea Dentists of New England. I contacted them, but never followed through. For some reason I had a real aversion to the idea of a dental appliance. It didn’t help that I saw that horrific 60 Minutes piece on the dental device that was sold to fix patients’ jaws and improve breathing, but in fact destroyed their teeth and jaws.
However, what I read about the negative consequences on health caused by sleep apnea gave me pause. My grandson asked me not too long ago what I considered to be “old age”. Upon reflection I decided that I would consider 110 to be old age, and I want to stay as healthy as possible to see that milestone. And my sleep apnea was just been getting worse over time and I found myself falling asleep during the day.
So I bit the bullet, set up, and kept an appointment at the clinic. I had great skepticism that the treatment would succeed and was all but determined that it would fail. That was June it is now September. Dr Cohn was amazing. Took time, was patient, answered all my questions, made multiple adjustments to my dental device. And here I am 3 months later. Sleeping 7 hours a night with the dental device, the CPAP machine, and the acetazolamide. Wide awake during the day. No more dozing off. It’s incredible! Astonishing even. Wish I had done this years ago.
Is Dr Cohen a Miracle Worker? You decide. I just know my life has changed for the better. And so has my husband’s :-) !!!"
