This is extremely valuable in understanding how tongue posture can affect airway patency as explained by my colleague, Dr. Stanley Liu, during his discussion with Dr Shereen Lim.

Throwback to about 6 weeks ago when I graduated from the Pediatric Dental Sleep Medicine Mini-Residency. It was a full course that went over airway anatomy and function, sleep physiology, sleep study interpretation, craniofacial growth and development and so much more.

I am extremely grateful for the experience and knowledge I gained from this wonderful faculty:

Program Director: Dr. Leopoldo Correa
Pediatric Sleep Physician: Dr. Umakanth Khatwa
Pediatric Orthodontist: Dr. Audrey Yoon
Sleep Surgeon: Dr. Stanley Liu

Hi 👋🏼🥰 I’ve gained some new followers over the past few weeks so I thought I would introduce myself 😃

I’m Dr. Tracy, a board-certified pediatric dental specialist 🦷and I practice primarily in Newport Beach, CA! ☀️🌴🌊 (every Monday I’m in Beverly Hills 💁🏻‍♀️). My practice is solely focused on functional issues related to restricted oral tissue, *aka* tongue-tie, lip-tie, and cheek ties for infants and children.

Since these functional issues can impact craniofacial (head and jaw) growth and development, I also provide growth modification treatment to help children improve in their jaw growth… basically what that means is, I use orthodontic and orthopedic appliances to make space for the tongue to function and improve breathing.

I started diving deep into tongue ties over 5 years ago. It took me awhile to start doing it because I am not one to do things I’m not well-versed in, so I spent a lot of time over the past years taking CE courses and learning not just about ties, but how to properly treat and manage them.

My mission is to educate parents on what they need to know around and in an - o b j e c t i v e - way. There is such a disconnect between the medical community and dental community, so when parents seek advice from both, they are utterly confused and can’t figure out what to do. I try to break it down and simplify it so you can understand the functional concepts that I find most important. After all, when there’s a problem with oral function, parents start to dig for answers and come across tongue-tie.

Please let your friends and families know about me, especially if they’re expecting a little one of their own! Often times, tongue-tie and lip-tie get caught after weeks of breastfeeding struggles and it’s much easier to manage right after baby is born.

My consultations are an hour long and I do both in-person and virtual. Reach out to my office if you would like to schedule with me:

✨Allowing mothers to breastfeed immediately after frenotomy is extremely important to me✨ Sometimes the babies don’t want to, and that’s okay (usually it’s because they are still numb from the topical).

💕 I give each family the time they need post-procedure to relish in that bond 💕

When a mom experiences pain pre-procedure, sometimes there is anxiety associated with trying to feed after the release. She may be hesitant to try without the protective methods they were using before (i.e., the ni**le shield), so I love supporting them through that. I don’t take the place of an IBCLC, but I try my best to guide until they can get in with their lactation consultant. The change may not be immediate in some cases, but when it is, there is nothing more rewarding than realizing how different this experience can be for the mother, especially if breastfeeding was painful to start 🥰

It saves the breastfeeding relationship between the mother and the baby.
✨. THIS . IS . PRICELESS .✨

To all my mamas out there- Please know that breastfeeding is NOT supposed to be painful!!!!! It might be uncomfortable at the start, but not to the point where you have to bite your lip or grit your teeth to get the baby latched on.

Any questions? Please drop them in the comments below!

🎙️ Episode 136: The dental approach to airway-centric early intervention

😍 In this episode, Hallie talks to Tracy Tran, DDS about her dental approach to airway-centric early intervention.

🌟 They discuss the need and importance of obtaining a functional assessment, modalities of treatment, frenectomy aftercare and most common reasons for reattachment following frenectomy.

🌟 They discuss the importance of working as a team of disciplines, from the dentist to the SLP or OT specialized in feeding to other key players on the treatment team. The earlier the team can intervene, the better!

So excited to be mobile with the 5D! No need for any goopy impressions, especially for our tongue-tied little ones who tend to have a sensitive gag-reflex. This is such amazing technology and will be assisting me in doing more and better for my kids under 5! Can’t wait to track the growth and development of these babes 🤩

Thank you from for taking the time to help me set up my iTero!

Did you know the infant suck and swallow are AUTOMATIC. They actually start learning to suck at 12 weeks in utero!!! There is a neurological program already embedded in your baby’s system! I always like to say, “Just because I release your baby’s tongue, doesn’t mean they know how to use it.” They’ve already got their own programming, so it takes training with a therapist (SLP or OT) who has experience in infant feeding to get them to optimal function :)
