A car changed my life. NYC cosmetic dentist. Former refugee. Glamour told this story in 2003.

1968. Communist Romania. Ceausescu had just taken power.

My father and my uncle had stayed after the war. They believed things would get better.

They were wrong. So they ran.

✦ Six of us. One tiny Fiat 500.
✦ My father drove 68 hours until we reached Italy.
✦ Political asylum. Two years in a refugee camp.
✦ I was 5 when we left. 7 when I saw New York.

In 2003, Glamour photographed me holding a toy Fiat. I told them my dream was to keep that car in my home like a statue.

23 years later, look what’s in my hands.

You see a pink dress and a Park Avenue practice. I see six people breathing in a car built for two, and a father who refused to stop.

Don’t call me lucky.

Luck didn’t drive 68 hours. My father did.

• I finally booked a cleaning with the best dentist in NYC.

• ✅ Hands of an angel
• ✅ Knew every tooth in my mouth by name
• ✅ Didn’t lecture me about my espresso habit (suspicious)
• ✅ Gorgeous Park Ave office, no wait time, no forms, no small talk about the weather
• ❌ Asked me a question while both our hands were in my mouth. Classic.
• ❌ Asked “have you been flossing?” I said yes. She knew I was lying. She was also me.
• ❌ Refused professional courtesy. Said I “can afford it.” Honestly? Fair.
• Final verdict: 30+ years of experience and it SHOWS. Would book again. Would recommend. Would never cancel on her, she knows where I live. 🦷✨

✦ Strips and trays work on the surface. Laser whitening activates the gel deeper, so you get a real shift in one appointment instead of six weeks of maybe.
✦ The shade you leave with is the shade you keep, as long as you protect it. Coffee, red w**e, and berries are the first 48 hours’ enemies.
✦ Sensitivity is not inevitable. It comes from technique and isolation, not from the laser itself.
✦ Whitening first, veneers second, always. You match porcelain to your brightest natural shade, never the other way around.
