There are different types of hyperdontia, and they are classified according to the teeth shape and position. Among those classified by shape:
- supplemental where the tooth has a normal shape
- tuberculate where the teeth are barrel shaped
- conical shaped extra tooth
- compound odontoma
- complex odontoma.
Those classified by position include:
- mesiodens that occur between the maxillary central incisors
- paramolar or distomolar.
Hyperdontia means having extra teeth in the mouth. The supernumerary teeth can erupt normally, remain impacted or cause teeth crowding. They can vary in shape and location.
