Sunday wellness focus this week is on the importance of sleep and how cortisol levels and stress affect a good nights rest. There are three distinct patterns of cortisol profile. The normal pattern would be the highest levels reached 30 minutes to 1 hour after waking, and then a slow decline throughout the day. If the pattern is disturbed, you can have a tired but wired pattern or a wired and tired pattern. There are many things you can use to try to alter sleep behavior, including sleep aids, supplements, peptides, vagus nerve stimulation, pharmacology, frequency therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Personally, I still struggle with healthy restorative sleep. What do you do for sleep enhancement?
