Dr. Eunjung Jo completed her college education with honors and decided that being a dentist was how she wanted to contribute to the health community. She continued onto dental school and graduated from the New York University College of Dentistry and obtained her doctorate in dental surgery. Following graduation, it was important for her to further her dental educa

tion prior to starting in private practice. She chose to complete a general practice residency at Weill Cornell Medical College – Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center. As a level one trauma center, this program had served to better her as a clinician and prepare her for every phase of dentistry where she was able to work in close conjunction with the oromaxillifacial residents and attendings in surgical cases. This additional year of training allowed Dr. Jo to further her knowledge and experience in treating patients who presented with more complex dental cases, as well as patients requiring special attention due to a more intricate medical history. Throughout her residency, she worked diligently alongside oral-maxillofacial surgeons, and was closely involved in cases such as head and neck trauma, orthognathic surgery and facial plastic surgery. Dr.Jo is very devoted to her patients and believes a person's smile is the best asset one can have. A healthy smile not only makes you feel and look better, but it is also essential to your overall health. Dr. Jo strives to stay up to date with the many advances in dentistry, allowing her to expand her services as a family and cosmetic dentist, thus providing the best treatment plan suitable for you.

Gum Disease & Overall Health

- Periodontal disease occurs in your mouth but seems to be linked to more serious conditions in other parts of the body, such as cardio-vascular disease (CVD), diabetes and preterm births. While the exact nature of the connection is unclear, it appears that moderate to severe periodontal disease increases the level of systemic (bodily) inflammation — a characteristic of all chronic inflammatory diseases. Also, the same bacterial strains that are commonly found in periodontal pockets surrounding diseased teeth have been found in blood vessel plaques of individuals with CVD. Therefore, controlling periodontal inflammation may help to reduce systemic inflammation.

-Preventive Strategies
- The best way to prevent periodontal disease is to brush and floss your teeth effectively every day. In fact, regular dental checkups and professional cleanings every 3, 4 or 6 months (as recommended by your dentist) are also an important part of maintaining periodontal health; the instruments and techniques used in these cleanings can reach into areas that your toothbrush and floss can’t.
- We can also detect early forms of gum disease by evaluating your gingival (gum) tissues, both visually and by examining their attachment levels to the teeth. And we can assess the health of your tooh-supporting bone by taking dental radiographs.
- There are other steps you can take: Eating right, reducing stress in your life, and giving up unhealthy habits like smoking will also help ensure that you keep your teeth for a lifetime.

4 Dental Tips for a Healthy Mouth During pregnancy 🤰🏼

1. Keep your teeth and gums healthy. Gum disease can cause low birth weight or premature birth. Unhealthy gums can also allow build up of decay-causing bacteria and transmission to your baby, which can lead to early childhood tooth decay.
2. Avoid or treat vomiting and acid reflux that may accompany pregnancy. Pregnant women who experience morning sickness are at a higher risk of tooth erosion.
3. There are several ways to minimise this risk, including rinsing your mouth with water or mouth rinse, chewing sugar free gum, smearing a bit of toothpaste over your teeth, and waiting 30 minutes before brushing after vomiting.
4. Watch for signs of gum disease related to pregnancy and if they appear, quickly get them treated.
5. Signs of gum disease include bad breath, swollen gums, red gums (instead of pink), and bleeding gums.
6. Put down the to***co! This is not really news to anyone, but you should stop using all to***co products. To***co products not only affect pregnant women, but also their unborn children. According to a study by the American Lung Association, to***co use doubles the likelihood of periodontitis!

✨ Bruxism is when you clench, grind or gnash your teeth. It usually occurs subconsciously, and it can happen when you’re awake or asleep.
Many people grind their teeth every now and then, especially during stressful times. But if you do it a lot, it can put extra strain on your teeth and jaws, leading to dental damage, headaches, jaw pain and other issues.
Anyone can develop bruxism, but it’s most common during childhood, adolescence and young adulthood. It’s difficult to know exactly how many people grind their teeth because it often happens during sleep.
