If youâve ever thought or said one of theseâŚweâre glad youâre here.
Take a seat and letâs officially bust these myths. Don't worry, we'll be gentle, unlike your brushing.
âI brush my teeth really hard, so I know they're clean.â
Brushing harder doesnât clean better, it can actually damage enamel and irritate your gums. Gentle, thorough brushing is the way to go.
âFlossing isnât necessary if I brush well.â
Brushing only cleans about 60% of your teeth, flossing gets the areas your toothbrush canât reach.
âNone of my teeth hurt, so theyâre healthy.â
No pain doesnât always mean no problem. Many dental issues develop silently in the early stages.
âMy grandma says losing teeth is a normal part of aging.â
We love your grandma and we're sure she's right about most things, but with proper care, your natural teeth are meant to last a lifetime.
"I know only sugar causes cavities, and I don't have too much sugar."
Sugar can contribute, but cavities are really caused by bacteria feeding on food stuck to your teeth and plaque, not just sweets alone.
"I never floss because when I do, my gums bleed." Bleeding gums are usually a sign you need to floss more, not less. Healthy gums shouldnât bleed!
