When a patient tells me their doctor sent them to the dentist for sleep issues, I’m looking at the root cause of the grind. Is it a volume restriction from nasal vs. mouth breathing? Or maybe an anatomical issue like a retruded jaw that’s physically blocking your airway?

I recently spoke with a patient who was “sleeping” for 9 hours and even trying mouth taping, but her sleep data was still terrible. The problem? She couldn’t actually breathe adequately through her nose. You can’t tape your mouth shut if your nose isn’t doing its job first.

If you’re constantly tired despite being in bed all night, it’s time to look at the volume of your breath, not just the guard on your teeth.

This patient came to me with decay around her two older front crowns and wanted a more refreshed, natural-looking smile. After discussing her esthetic goals, I treated her front four teeth — placing veneers on the lateral incisors and new ceramic crowns on the central incisors.

Our treatment process began with whitening and a digital mock-up so we could carefully design her new smile together. Once we finalized the shape and overall look, I moved into the treatment phase: removing the existing crowns and decay, preparing the teeth for the new restorations, and fabricating provisional restorations based on the approved mock-up.

The provisional phase gave us the opportunity to evaluate the design directly in her mouth and make any refinements needed before final fabrication. This step is essential in creating restorations that not only achieve the patient’s esthetic goals, but also support long-term function and harmony with the smile.

Stop using this toothpaste if you care about your enamel!

A lot of these products are marketed as “natural whitening,” but many are highly abrasive and can slowly wear away the outer layer of your teeth. Once enamel is gone, it does not come back.

I’ve seen patients develop increased sensitivity and dull-looking teeth from overusing abrasive whitening products at home. A brighter smile should never come at the cost of damaging healthy tooth structure.

If you’re trying to whiten your teeth, look for products that are safe, evidence-based, and designed to protect enamel long term.

20 teeth. One transformation.

Stunning before & after results from this patient’s veneer transformation.

Veneers are thin custom porcelain shells designed to improve the shape, color, symmetry, and overall balance of a smile while still maintaining a natural appearance tailored to each individual patient.

As a prosthodontist, I always tell my patients this: floss before you brush.

Think of it like sweeping before you mop. If you floss first, your toothbrush can actually clean more effectively afterward, instead of just pushing debris around.

Are you grinding your teeth or just fighting for air? 🤔

A lot of people think grinding is just a stress habit, but it’s often your body’s way of trying to open up a restricted airway.

If your jaw isn’t positioned correctly, it can physically limit the oxygen you get at night.

I tell my patients: Your mouth is the gateway to your sleep health. If the foundation is broken, your health will follow. Let’s talk about the airway-sleep connection.

This patient came to me wanting to smile with confidence again.
As shown above, her teeth were significantly compromised prior to treatment, with broken crowns, residual root structures, and areas of infection present.

I developed a comprehensive treatment plan in collaboration with Dr. Lustman, which included single crowns on 8 teeth and 5 single implant crowns.

The treatment sequence was carefully coordinated as follows:
Diagnostic mock-up and design review
Caries removal and placement of temporaries
Extractions performed by our oral surgery team
Implant placement completed by oral surgery
Prototype trial insertion
Final delivery of porcelain crowns and implant-supported crowns

The final result restored both function and aesthetics, allowing the patient to regain a healthy, confident smile.

Watch Out for Your Teeth! 🥤

Electrolyte drinks are often marketed as “healthy,” but many are highly acidic and can contribute to enamel erosion over time.

When consumed, acids in these beverages can temporarily soften the enamel surface for up to 20–30 minutes. During this window, teeth are more vulnerable to wear… especially if brushing occurs immediately after.

To help protect your enamel:
• Drink in moderation
• Use a straw when possible
• Rinse with water afterward
• Wait at least 30 minutes before brushing

Are you missing the primary source of bad breath?

The tongue’s surface is textured, creating a perfect ecosystem for anaerobic bacteria to colonize. These bacteria produce volatile sulfur compounds, which are the leading cause of halitosis.

Solution: Include a tongue scraper in your daily routine. It is significantly more effective at removing biofilm and bacteria from the tongue’s surface than a toothbrush.

Most people ignore early signs of TMJ until it gets worse.

Swipe through to see the signs you shouldn’t ignore. Catching it early can prevent long-term discomfort (and bigger issues later).
