Brownsville and East New York families, let’s get our students ready for the year ahead.

In partnership with Sunrise Medical and the , we are hosting a Back-to-School Giveaway to help children return to the classroom healthy, prepared, and confident. Families can access school physicals, vaccines, school supplies, and grooming services—all in one trusted community location.

Because getting ready for school is about more than a backpack. It is about ensuring every child has the care, resources, and support they need to start strong.

Still proud. 🎓

A month ago, on June 24 at Medgar Evers College, two graduates crossed the stage at the World Academy for Total Community Health High School, better known as W.A.T.C.H. BMS was there to celebrate them.

Here's what most people don't know: BMS founded this school.

W.A.T.C.H. is a health-career public high school with a Nursing Assistant program, a youth farm, and youth violence prevention programming, co-located with our BMS school-based health center. We built it because we believe the path to a healthier Brownsville runs straight through its young people. Its motto says it all: "Where We Enter to Learn and We Leave to Achieve."

This year, we presented two named scholarships.

Fatimah Braimah received the Joseph K. Francois Valedictorian Scholarship, for academic excellence.

Gendry Torres received the Paul F. Chandler Community Service Award, named in honor of the late Paul F. Chandler, former BMS Board Chair.

Rosemary Polanco, our school-based health center Practice Manager, and members of our Board, including Vice Chair Yvonne Graham and Valerie Chandler, sister of the late Paul F. Chandler, were all there in person.

A month later, we're still proud. Fatimah and Gendry, you are exactly who this school was built for. Go achieve.

Meet Arezoo Termechi.

BMS is proud to welcome Arezoo as our new Vice President of Inpatient & Outpatient Behavioral Health Services.

Arezoo came to this country as a refugee, arriving as a teenager and building a life in New York from there. That experience shaped the work she has done ever since - nearly thirty years of leadership in behavioral health, focused on the communities most often overlooked: people experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, families navigating mental illness and substance use, adults and children who need care but face too many closed doors.

Now she is here, leading the next chapter of BMS's behavioral health program.

Arezoo brings a rare combination: three decades of clinical and executive experience across inpatient, outpatient, and crisis behavioral health settings, an MSW from Adelphi, a Bachelor's from Queens College, and an MBA in progress at Boston University's Questrom School of Business. She has built teams, managed multi-million-dollar programs, and translated strategic vision into measurable results across her career.

But what our community should know most is this: she chose BMS because our patients are her patients — the people her whole career has been shaped by serving.

After more than a decade of steady, expert, deeply human care, Dr. Jesi Ramone is moving on to his next chapter and BMS is honoring him on his way out. Since 2014, Dr. Ramone has served as BMS's HIV program lead and Associate Medical Director. As one of the few AAHIVS-certified physicians in Brownsville and East New York, he built a program that patients trusted and that trust translated into a 92% viral suppression rate across our active patient panel. Behind that number are eleven years of patients who kept coming back, who lived longer and lived better because of him. Trust is the hardest thing to build in HIV care. Dr. Ramone built it, patient by patient, year after year. His care extended far beyond the exam room. He mentored colleagues, shaped how BMS approaches whole-person HIV care, and stood as a steady presence for a patient community that is often not met with steadiness anywhere else. The work continues. BMS's HIV program remains open and ready to care for every patient who trusted Dr. Ramone with their health. Thank you, Dr. Ramone. Brownsville and East New York are healthier because of you. Wishing you every good thing ahead.

One week ago, the Knicks ended a 53-year wait for New York. The last time they won, in 1973, a young man from Brooklyn was watching. A year later, the Knicks drafted him: Gregory "Jacko" Jackson, who Brownsville called the unofficial mayor of this neighborhood. Jacko played briefly in the NBA, then came home to do the work that defined him, leading the Brownsville Recreation Center for over a decade and shaping generations of Brownsville children alongside his wife Carmen. Carmen Jackson has served on the BMS Board of Directors since 2015. The Greg Jackson Center for Brownsville at 519 Rockaway Avenue stands as the living institutional legacy of what they built together. Congratulations, New York. Honored, always, by the Jackson family.
