This Father’s Day, we’re celebrating not only Dr. Gelb as a father, but also the special opportunity to work alongside his daughter, Marissa.

As a Speech Language Pathologist specializing in orofacial myofunctional therapy, Marissa shares the same passion for helping patients improve their breathing, sleep, airway health, and overall quality of life. Together, they bring a collaborative, family-centered approach to patient care that reflects generations of dedication to innovation and wellness.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at The Gelb Center.

Sleep plays an important role in protecting long-term brain health.

Research has shown that lack of sleep is associated with a higher risk of conditions like Alzheimer’s disease. During sleep, the brain is not simply resting. It is actively repairing, clearing waste, and supporting healthy brain function.

A healthy sleep cycle allows the brain to go through important processes like autophagy, where damaged cellular material is recycled and removed. Sleep also triggers the release of growth hormones that help repair and support brain cells.

Prioritizing quality sleep is one of the most important things you can do for both your body and your brain.

When the jaw, airway, and overall physiology are working in harmony, the effects can go far beyond the TM joints.

Proper repositioning therapy may help support healthier TM joints, improved breathing, better sleep quality, reduced clenching, enhanced facial balance, and greater daytime performance. Many patients also notice improvements in mood, focus, and mental clarity as the body shifts out of chronic stress patterns and into a more restorative state.

At The Gelb Center, we take a comprehensive approach to TMJ and airway health because the way you breathe, sleep, and function are deeply connected.

If you need caffeine just to feel awake in the morning, it may be more than a busy schedule.

Waking up tired day after day can be a sign that you are not getting the quality sleep your body needs. Poor sleep, airway issues, and sleep apnea can all leave you feeling exhausted before your day even begins.

You should not have to rely on coffee just to function. The right treatment can help you wake up feeling more rested, focused, and energized.

Many people do not realize that jaw position can play a major role in how well they sleep.

When the lower jaw sits too far back, it can reduce airway space and make it harder to breathe comfortably at night. Over time, this may contribute to snoring, restless sleep, TMJ symptoms, headaches, and even sleep apnea.

At The Gelb Center, we take a comprehensive approach by looking at the relationship between the jaw, airway, and muscles to help patients improve both sleep quality and overall health.

Every patient’s TMJ symptoms are different, which is why treatment often requires a personalized approach.

For this patient, appliance therapy and physical therapy were important first steps, but Botox is when we saw physical results. After two to three sessions, she experienced a major improvement in her neck pain.

TMJ symptoms can affect far more than the jaw alone. Neck pain, headaches, muscle tension, and facial discomfort are often all connected. At The Gelb Center, we create individualized treatment plans designed to address the root cause and help patients find lasting relief.
