We're are looking forward to Thanksgiving and spending time with our family. 🦃

This year I am thankful for so much. I am grateful to still be able to do what I love. 🦷 I am grateful for my amazing staff and most importantly, I am grateful that Dr Behrens, my wife, still puts up with me! 😂

Pregnancy and dental work questions are common for expecting moms.

Did you ever notice that your gums are more irritated during your pregnancy? The rise in hormone levels cause the gums to swell and trap food.

Dental cleanings during pregnancy are not only safe, but are recommended more frequently (every 3-4 months) to avoid infection and gum disease. X-rays, however, should be postponed until after the baby's birth.

There are nearly 50,000 cases of oral cancer in the United States each year. Early detection is key, as nearly 85% of these cases are detected during your routine dental cleaning.

That is why we use VELscope for all oral cancer screenings. The VELScope uses a blue fluorescent light to help identify any abnormal tissues in the mouth that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye.

Regular checkups are about more than just your smile. It's important to be screened at least once a year. A VELScope exam takes only a few minutes, is painless, and most importantly could save your life!

Why do I need x-rays?!?

We get this question all the time.

I'll give you an example.

Let's say, I have a leaky ceiling and I call my plumber to come fix the leak. The first thing he's going to say is, I need to cut a hole in the wall to see where the leak is coming from. How do I know what's going on behind the wall? Hmmm.... if only he had x-ray vision!

Lucky for us dentists, we do have x-rays to help us see "behind the wall." Decay that isn't visible to the naked eye can be seen with x-rays. Early detection is key! Make sure you have check up x-rays every 6 months.
