How can you tell if you have gum disease?
In the initial stages, there will be occasional bleeding while brushing. Gradually, there will be sensitivity to cold & hot beverages, bad breath and pain while chewing. As the bone loss due to periodontitis advances, there will be loosening of the tooth in the mouth and pus formation and swelling on the gums. Ultimately if left untreated the person will lose his/her teeth one by one. Smoking is one of the leading (and avoidable) causes of gum disease!

Retainers are the key to preventing tooth movement. The most important time to be faithful with your retainer is immediately after your braces come off. Everyone is different and the length of time that retainers must be worn full time varies. Each patient must monitor their own teeth during the first month or two after their braces come off and make sure they wear their retainers at least as much as prescribed, even more if necessary. If you don’t wear your retainers and your teeth move because you didn’t, you may have to have braces again to move things back where they were.

Is It Normal for My Teeth to Move Immediately After the Braces Come Off?

It is normal for the teeth to “settle” after the braces come off. This settling can result in a bite that is actually better than when the braces were in place. Movement of the front teeth however is undesirable and patients, (and dentists alike) want to prevent it as much as possible. Sophia is the First recipient of our Give Kids A Smile Charity Program.

Patients with down syndrome have a variety of special dental issues to address. It is very important to treat these children in a comfortable environment where they feel safe, and to pace their treatment over a slow period of time in order to build patient trust and not overwhelm the patient.

Sophia had many missing teeth along with extensive dental decay. She needed multiple extractions, followed by implant treatment and implant retained over dentures to replace the missing teeth. Also all porcelain crowns and bridge work were completed to give her the natural looking smile that she dazzles us with.
