Tea Yay or Nay? ☕🦷

Happy National Iced Tea Day!

Iced tea is one of the world's most popular beverages, enjoyed for thousands of years. Unsweetened tea contains antioxidants called polyphenols, which may help support overall health and can even help reduce the growth of certain bacteria in the mouth.

When it comes to your smile, the type of tea matters. Unsweetened tea is generally a tooth-friendly choice, while sweet tea and other sugary tea drinks can increase the risk of cavities by feeding the bacteria that cause tooth decay. Tea can also cause some staining over time, especially black tea, so it's a good idea to drink water afterward and maintain regular brushing and dental cleanings.

Our tip: Choose unsweetened tea whenever possible, enjoy sugary drinks in moderation, and rinse with water after sipping to help keep your smile healthy and bright.

Shark Teeth Alert!

Did a permanent tooth start coming in behind a baby tooth? This situation is often called "shark teeth" because it looks like two rows of teeth.

In many cases, the baby tooth will loosen and fall out on its own as the permanent tooth continues to erupt. Gentle wiggling of the baby tooth can help encourage the process.

If the baby tooth is not becoming loose, or if there are concerns about how the permanent tooth is coming in, a dental evaluation may be needed. Sometimes the baby tooth must be removed to help the permanent tooth move into its proper position.

When in doubt, schedule a visit with the dental team to make sure everything is developing as it should!

Snack smart. Keep treatment on track.

Crunchy, sticky, and chewy snacks may be fun for a minute, but they can also lead to broken brackets, bent wires, and unwanted delays in treatment.

Braces-friendly choices like yogurt, cheese, smoothies, pasta, soft fruits, and softer snacks are much easier on orthodontic appliances while still keeping patients happy and satisfied between meals.

Healthy, braces-friendly choices help keep both teeth and treatment moving in the right direction.
