💜🦷 A very special case in honor of those residents graduating this week…This patient was my very first patient in PG Prosth at NYU. And while I was not able to finish this case during my time at NYU, I don’t think there’s a case that taught me more about prosthodontics than this one here.
It all started with a complete denture. Learning how to properly fabricate a denture is the foundation of all full mouth rehabilitation. I was then able to use this denture for surgical planning and fabricate a surgical guide.💪
But of course, as prosthodontists, we’re always trained to have a backup…and for good reason. After the initial osteotomies were made, we checked the screw access hole positions against a hollowed out duplicate denture, and we ended up making some adjustments free-hand.🔩
With a lot of patience and many denture relines later, I was finally able to make my final impression - splinted roundhouse and cross-arch - and verify my cast with a stone verification jig.
Next came meticulous communication with the lab, including numerous pictures of the proposed smile design and an implant supported duplicate denture that had been adjusted with further esthetic improvements.
I was able to insert the provisional in my last week of residency. Not sure who was more excited to transition from removable to fixed - me or the patient (but probably the patient!). And finally, while I was not there for final insertion of the definitive prosthesis, I was beyond thrilled to receive some of the post-op photos.🤩
Big thanks to everyone who worked so hard on this case! 💜🦷🔩💪🤩😁
