Congratulations to CDM alumna Dr. Soomin Park, DDS ’24, on receiving the Henry M. Thornton/SCADA Fellowship Award!

Now pursuing combined PhD and orthodontics training at UCLA through the NIDCR Dental Scientist PhD Program, Park is conducting research focused on tissue regeneration and new technologies for monitoring oral health conditions.

Columbia College of Dental Medicine was proud to take part in PUSH (Pick-Up Sports & Health) on May 15th, highlighting the power of interprofessional collaboration in advancing community health through education, mentorship, and service. Through partnerships like Give Kids A Smile and the New York County Dental Society, dentists play a critical role far beyond the clinic such as promoting health literacy, prevention, and access to care for the next generation.

Special recognition to Dr. Mina Kim, President of the Alumni Association, and Dr. Anna Viron for their leadership and dedication to community oral health initiatives. Their work continues to demonstrate how dentistry and medicine come together to uplift and empower our communities.

Earlier this month, our students enjoyed a night to remember at their Spring Formal, held at 230 Fifth Rooftop.

Thank you to the College of Dental Medicine Alumni Association for helping support this year's formal, and to our CDM community for showing up for one of our favorite nights of the year, and a special thank you to Aryas Safaie, George Haggar, and Jary Patrocinio for putting it together.

Our Columbia Dental students continue to amaze us with their creativity and incredible talent both inside and outside the classroom. On April 30th, the D1 Talent Show showcased the amazing talents within our community and brought together students, faculty, alumni, and members of the incoming Class of 2030 for a memorable evening.

A special thank you to Dasomie Kim and Rei Hemmer, our D1 orientation leaders, along with the entire orientation committee for organizing such a meaningful event. Thank you to our alumni, faculty, and students for their generous auction donations and continued support in helping raise funds for our future students’ orientation.

Columbia University College of Dental Medicine proudly welcomed a new class of inductees into the Epsilon Epsilon chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU), the national dental honor society, during its annual induction ceremony on May 4, 2026.

The ceremony recognized students, faculty, and honorary members for their scholarship, leadership, character, and contributions to the advancement of dental medicine. This year’s honorary inductee was Dr. Angela V. Olinto, Provost of Columbia University, who shared reflections on her academic journey and words of encouragement for graduating students entering the profession.
