PFM (Porcelain-fused-to-metal) crowns have been used for many years. However, over the past few years, majority of dentists are choosing Zirconia restorations. Some dentists even use Zirconia exclusively. One problem with PFM restorations is gum recession. Over time, as gum tissue recedes, the metal margin of the PFM is exposed, creating a grayish-colored line that isn’t aesthetically pleasing. Zirconia can create the most life-like restorations, and its strength makes it a superior choice in numerous situations. It is suitable for both anterior and posterior restorations. Not only does it look better, it’s also stronger.
Need a crown? call (212) 496 – 2260 and book a free consultation and know which one may be best for you.

Flossing may not seem like the most exciting thing to do regularly but failing to floss adequately may contribute to:

Tartar: Removing plaque regularly is vital to your oral health as left on your teeth, plaque will harden into tartar. Once this occurs, you will not be able to clean it on your own but will require the help of your dental professional.

Gum disease: Plaque and tartar can contribute to your gums becoming sensitive, inflamed, and red: symptoms of gum disease. The sooner you start flossing, the better. Early-stage gum disease (also known as gingivitis) is reversible, but later-stage gum disease (also known as periodontitis) is not.
Cavities: Tooth decay from plaque can create holes (also known as dental caries) in your teeth's hard outer layer, known as the enamel. Left untreated, this can lead to pain, infection, and other oral health problems.

Chronic disease: Chronic oral health problems have been connected to other health problems Brushing your teeth is essential but doesn’t remove all your plaque on its own. Cleaning between your teeth is associated with a lower frequency of gum disease, cavities, and missing teeth.

A cavity, also called tooth decay, is a hole that forms in your tooth. It starts small and gradually becomes bigger when they’re left untreated. In early tooth decay, there are not usually any symptoms. As tooth decay advances, it can cause toothache (tooth pain) or tooth sensitivity to sweets, hot, or cold. Untreated cavities can cause not only toothache, but also infection, and tooth loss. Treatments include fluoride, fillings, and crowns. Severe cases may need a root canal or an extraction. If you feel like you have cavities, or even just think that you have cavities, don’t wait, call (212) 496-2260 and schedule an appointment.

You brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day and floss every day. Do you still need to visit the dentist every six months for teeth cleaning? After all, the hygienist is just doing what you’re already doing everyday, right?
Not really, good oral hygiene habits at home no matter how diligent are simply not enough to fully clean your teeth. Professional cleaning plays a much larger role in your oral health than giving your teeth a deep clean. When you come in for your dental cleaning appointment the hygienist removes the hardened plaque from your teeth, this is the hardened material that forms on your teeth, often along the gum line or between teeth along with stains and tartar that regular brushing and flossing are not able to remove.
Once plaque and tartar is removed, the hygienist uses a special paste and electric brush to polish your teeth. Finishing it off with flossing to remove any remaining particles from between the teeth and along the gum line. And once the cleaning is done the dentist will do an exam and to discuss any concern you or he/she may have about your dental health.

When a tooth is lost due to injury or disease, a person can experience complications such as rapid bone loss, defective speech, or changes to chewing patterns that result in discomfort. Replacing a lost tooth with a dental implant can significantly improve the patient's quality of life and health.
Dental implant systems consist of a dental implant body and dental implant abutment and may also include an abutment fixation screw. The dental implant body is surgically inserted in the jawbone in place of the tooth's root. The dental implant abutment is usually attached to the implant body by the abutment fixation screw and extends through gums into the mouth to support the attached artificial teeth. - U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Veneers and crowns are both dental restoration methods that can improve the look and function of your teeth. A veneer covers only the front surface of your tooth. They’re not as invasive as crowns, because the preparation leaves more of your original tooth intact. Whereas a crown covers the entire tooth. With a crown, more of the tooth needs to be filed or ground down to prepare for the crown placement.
Although the procedures are different, both have good success rates. call (212) 496 – 2260 and book a free consultation and know which one may be best for you.
