Been trying to get back into making my own healthy bites, and decided to revamp my banana oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! I added moringa powder for its lactation benefits. Happy to share the DIY recipe I came up with that has evolved over the years 😋

This year has been humbling to say the least in my motherhood journey x 3. It’s probably the peak physical and mental toughness challenge I’ve faced and I strive to build myself back up stronger every day. They remind me every day what joy is 😌 Wishing a Happy Mother’s Day!

I’m back! 😎🦷 thanks for all the well wishes as I returned to the office last week. I’m easing back into things slowly as I build back up my strength. Who knew that dentistry is such a physical profession!?

It’s been a rocky few months, but we made it through the 4th trimester! This pic was taken in March before I broke my shoulder. Eternally grateful for your ginormous smiles that help keep me strong while my body feels so broken. I look forward to starting PT to rehab my shoulder and core, and especially being able to hold you again 🥹

One more crowding case. No veneers involved here! Sometimes proper alignment, arch development and TLC is all you really need. Plus easier to maintain hygiene is a win-win 💪

I thought this would be a nice case to post back-to-back as this is a non-extraction treatment plan.

This patient started orthodontic treatment as a later aged teen, and we missed the optimal years of rapid maxillary expansion. Nonetheless, we still started with a palatal expander as an orthopedic first phase followed by aligner treatment.

Compliance significantly dipped once the patient went off to college. We took about 4(!) years to get here since we were really committed to try to get the best outcome we could.

It’s not perfect. And yes there’s still a Crossbite in the back, however, the amount of expansion we achieved is huge! Check out the upper occlusal view. The patient’s smile is significantly transformed and her teeth are now resonant with her smile arc.

Crowding is resolved, which is important since this patient’s oral hygiene has also been a challenge.

Equally important, she experienced a great boost in her confidence.

Excited to share this smile transformation. This is one example where I find extractions as a reasonable part of her treatment. This patient specifically came in asking for extractions because she didn’t like the fullness of her lower face. She had lip incompetence and mentalis (chin muscle) strain. Check the final pictures to see the facial changes!

She was told this sort of treatment would not be possible for her with aligners. But we did it!

We reviewed both extraction and non-extraction treatment options and the patient opted for the extraction plan, which was well suited for her soft tissue considerations and the fact that she has larger sized teeth. Now her smile and midlines are much more symmetrical too, and she couldn’t be more happy with the outcome 🤩

I would have never imagined that I’d land in the ER TWICE in less than a month.

I was up all night with stomach pains on Wed into Thursday. As the pain began radiating to the right I started doomscrolling about appendicitis at 4am, but didn’t seriously consider it at that point.

My high pain tolerance sometimes does me in. I figured I was fine enough and just needed to ride it out. However, by Thursday afternoon I called a gastro since I was limping. The pain seemed a little extra and wasn’t subsiding. The bumps in the taxi reminded me of when I was in labor. The gastro right away sent me to an imaging center to rule out appendicitis. The CT scan was unfortunately affirmative, and also IDed an umbilical hernia that I’ll have to address at a future time.

By the time we got to the ER it was almost 7pm. Fortunately the back-work expedited the process. I had to pump again in the ER because it wasn’t memorable enough the first time 🤪 On top of it all, I noticed an allergic reaction to my IV antibiotics (no lucky breaks!).

I underwent surgery late Thursday night into Friday, and fortunately it was straightforward. I left Friday morning and am now on the mend, again.

As crazy as it all is, I still feel lucky and grateful that all turned out well and that I received excellent care. Just hoping ER visits don’t come in 3s!
