Not all palatal expanders are the same, and choosing the right one comes down to timing.

🦷 For kids, early expansion can guide jaw growth.
🦷 For teens and adults, it’s a completely different approach.

If you’ve heard terms like ā€œRPEā€ or ā€œMARPEā€ and aren’t sure what they actually mean, we broke it down clearly šŸ‘‡

Many people don’t realize this, but orthodontists don’t just straighten teeth.

Orthodontists are trained to improve both the alignment š˜¢š˜Æš˜„ š˜µš˜©š˜¦ š˜°š˜·š˜¦š˜³š˜¢š˜š˜ š˜¢š˜¦š˜“š˜µš˜©š˜¦š˜µš˜Ŗš˜¤š˜“ of your smile, which means they can provide cosmetic-focused treatment too.

From subtle refinements to full smile improvements, cosmetic orthodontics uses modern treatment options to create a healthier, more balanced, & more confident smile.

If you’ve been told you need a ā€œcosmetic dentistā€ for smile improvements, it’s definitely worth exploring what orthodontic treatment can actually do for you šŸ‘€

The star of the screen ✨

This young patient came in with his mom, concerned about a developing underbite and how his skeletal growth pattern could impact not just his smile but also his airway health.

We implemented early interceptive treatment using regenerative palatal expansion along with comprehensive dental arch development of both arches. By taking a truly holistic and growth focused approach, we guided proper bite relationships and supported healthy dentoalveolar development, creating the space needed for future eruption of permanent teeth.

The result is not just straighter teeth, but a strong foundation for long term facial growth, function, and airway health.

āš ļø For parents: partial braces on the front teeth may improve appearance temporarily, but they often fail to address the underlying skeletal and bone development deficiencies.

Choose an orthodontist who is willing to invest the time to truly develop your child’s jaw and dentoalveolar bone, not just align the teeth.

Because real orthodontic treatment is about building structure, function, and lasting health.

Think you’re ā€œtoo oldā€ for a palate expander? That’s not the case!

MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion) is changing what’s possible in adult orthodonticsā€¦š˜øš˜Ŗš˜µš˜©š˜°š˜¶š˜µ jaw surgery. šŸ™Œ

→ Creates space for crowded teeth (often avoiding extractions)
→ Improves breathing and airway function
→ Expands your smile and enhances facial balance

Unlike traditional expanders, MARPE works at the bone level, making real skeletal changes (even after growth is complete.)

Many patients are surprised by benefits beyond straight teeth like easier nasal breathing & better sleep.

Adult orthodontics isn’t just about alignment anymore…it’s about total function.

Is your child 6 or 7? It might be time for their first orthodontic checkup! 😊

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends kids see an orthodontist by age 7.

But don’t worry, that doesn’t mean braces right away.

Many kids simply join our Kids Club, where we monitor their growing smiles and make visits fun along the way.

It’s all about healthy smiles, happy kids, and peace of mind for parents.

Happy Spring 2026 to everyone!

Parents always ask me when is the best time to bring their children to see the orthodontist! The correct answer is it depends! Some children don’t need any treatment until they are 12-15. However, many children always have early developmental problems that ca lead to severe crowding, dental impaction, and traumatic occlusion. Take for example, my little boy Adrian. He has to have his front baby teeth removed early because we detected that he had extra teeth growing under the baby teeth that would have eventually prevented the eruption of the adult incisors. If this was not caught early, the adult incisors would have been pushed upward causing severe future impaction which necessitate the need for oral surgery. Fortunately, by removing the baby teeth and the extra teeth early, the adult incisors will now erupt normally without additional procedure!

Take your child to see an orthodontist by the age of 6-7 to get an initial assessment. You never know what you might find or learn!
