Just in time for the holidays! Temporaries are the language of dentistry. They allow us to communicate the vision, and while this makeover is far from finished the patient is pleased nonetheless with this transformation!

Favorite NYU Dentistry memory:
I had the opportunity to go on the Henry Schein Cares Global Student Outreach trip to Dominican Republic as a D3 and D4 and it was a highlight of dental school. Serving on those outreach trips fulfilled a promise to my grandfather to go back and help those didn’t get the same opportunities I had in the States. I enjoyed talking to the patients in their native tongue and I got to explore the Dominican side of my heritage.

Favorite food:
Mangu con los tres golpes (Plantains with salami and eggs) made by Mom!

Hispanic Heritage Month gives us an opportunity to showcase the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the fabric of the nation. I'm looking forward to helping the office continue to plan more programming that celebrates our vibrant alumni community. I enjoyed reading about the alumni who shared their stories this month.

Advice for aspiring dental students:
Seek out and cultivate mentorship opportunities as they will prove invaluable along your journey, and never forget to look back to mentor others on your way to the top.

For our first Thank You Hermanos Thursdays, we are thanking Dr. Julian Isaacs!

Born and raised in New York, this NYU College of Dentistry alumni has broken barriers to ensure he can give back to his Dominican American community. Growing up, he was always interested in science. While in college at the University of Miami, he majored in biology with minors in chemistry and economics. Midway through his university studies, he began to think about pursuing a career in dentistry. For many years his mother worked with people who had developmental disabilities. While accompanying one of his mother's clients to a dental appointment, that moment became the turning point in his career. He suddenly found a new passion and began exploring the field. The unique transformative power of cosmetic dentistry with the blend of health, science, and art to improve a person's overall well-being inspired a unique sense of purpose in him.

With a thirst for philanthropy, Dr. Isaacs participated in two international outreach efforts sponsored by the NYU College of Dentistry in the Dominican Republic. During this philanthropic trip, the team treated 800 people per trip on average during each 5-day trip.

Dr. Isaacs was one of the many outstanding Dominican Americans presented with the DANF Blue Flame of achievement at CitiField on September 15, 2019, for his ongoing success in his field and his passion for sharing his talents to better the lives of his Dominican people.

Today we celebrate Dr. Julian Isaacs once again and thank you for your contribution to the DANF mission.
