When there’s tension or misalignment in the jaw whether from clenching, TMJ dysfunction, or altered bite it changes head posture. Your body compensates to keep balance, often by tilting the pelvis or shifting your weight.

If your jaw is clenched, chances are your pelvic floor is either overactive or not firing properly. This affects posture, breath control, and how your nervous system regulates tension.

1. Jaw Clenching is a Postural Habit
Your jaw is wired to react under stress. The more it clenches, the more your head shifts forward, forcing your entire posture to compensate.

2. Tension Travels Down the Line
Stress in your jaw sends strain down your neck, spine, hips, and even your knees and feet. It never stays local.

3. Pelvic and Spinal Shifts Follow
When your jaw locks, your pelvis often tilts or rotates to restore balance. That can show up as back pain or one-sided hip tightness.

4. This Affects Every Step You Take
If the jaw is locked, breathing changes, balance is off, and your walking pattern breaks down. You feel it in your joints, but it starts at the top.

Most people don’t realize your jaw and pelvis are linked. Not just through posture or movement habits.

Over time, these small changes can show up as chronic hip pain, pelvic instability, or forward head posture.

There’s also a functional link: the jaw and pelvic floor are both involved in how your body stabilizes the spine. They’re part of your core system.

Wireless Anatomy

Image from Dr Stone

I love this term and understanding. It expanded my understanding of anatomy from structural and mechanical to a more complete view of the human body and being.

If we run an electrical current through pure water, there is no conduction of electricity.

If we add minerals, like salt, we get an electromagnetic field and since our blood is analogous to salt water... Well, we have a wireless Anatomy. Then there's the conductivity of the aka to consider as well.

This has been documented across different healing traditions with many different names. Either way, it is inseparable from our structure, our other systems and also the emotional body.

By any measure the human face is shrinking.

The craniofacial system is the seat of the human brain, the architecture of the airway, and the instrument of communication.

I see this everyday in the clinic, parents are seeing it more and more.

Yet we've lost our connection to what makes us so fundamentally human.

While we can track these changes through the skull records to points where our human diet changes, the most recent and alarming shifts are going unnoticed.

Today children don't develop jaw bones that fit 32 human teeth.

Milk teeth are often crowded when they should be wide and spaced.

As a result the functional problems with a small jaw and airway is becoming normal in our children.

Mouthbreathing kids are normal today. Snoring kids are becoming more normal.

One billion people on the planet have obstructive sleep apnea, which is choking in our sleep.

So what do we do? Well we need to start thinking about the problem. There are ways to diagnose these issues early, and intervene through orthopedic expansion and oral function correction.

However, if we think broader, we must be devising strategies to make sure our grandchildren grow strong, healthy, wide jaws.

There is a nutrient, hormonal and mechanical relationship signalling the growth of the jaw from birth. Mothers and fathers must provide the nutrients and the physical guidance to help their child's jaw develop.

We must have a healthcare system that connects medicine and dentistry, with the view of prevention.

This is the biggest human health problem on the planet.
