If you do a crown on a front tooth to make it look nicer (cosmetic) then your insurance company will say it is a non covered benefit and will not reimburse you for it. Understandable. But for many insurances in the state of Michigan, they can still say that you can only charge a certain amount for that crown. A restricted and contracted fee. Even though this crown isn’t part of that contracted agreement. It’s pretty stupid. Also many dentists even don’t know that a covered benefit doesn’t mean that it will be a paid benefit. Your dental insurance may cover a certain service like a root canal but that won’t mean it’s fully paid and reimbursed. If dentists don’t even know this, how would a patient know this. And I’m all for education. That’s my thing. But if a system is so complicated that patients and dentists alike don’t know the nuances, and so complicated that you have to write clarification articles over and over, don’t you think something should be done. Wisdom given to me. You can either get out of the system. You can change the system. You can live with it.
