Oral Health Month

Topic #7 Pregnancy & Oral Health:

During pregnancy, hormonal changes can increase the risk of gingivitis, cavities, gum growths, and enamel erosion from morning sickness. Vomiting can damage tooth enamel, so rinsing with a baking soda solution is recommended instead of brushing immediately afterward. Maintaining good oral hygiene, including brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and cleaning between the teeth daily, is especially important during pregnancy.

Oral Health Month

Topic #6 Oral Piercings & Oral Health:

Oral piercings are a form of self-expression that are most common in adolescents and young adults, especially on the tongue. They can cause complications such as infection, bleeding, tooth damage, gum recession, scarring, and airway obstruction. The ADA advises against oral piercings and tongue splitting because these procedures are invasive and carry significant health risks that outweigh any potential benefits.
