When the upper and lower jaws don’t develop in harmony, the bite can start to show it. 🦷

Ideally, the upper and lower jaws grow in a balanced relationship. But when one develops differently than the other, it can affect how the teeth fit together, creating concerns like an overbite, underbite, crowding, or other bite issues.

That’s where orthodontics comes in.

Depending on the patient’s age, growth, and bite, orthodontic treatment can help guide development, improve alignment, and create a healthier relationship between the upper and lower teeth.

And this is exactly why timing matters. An orthodontic evaluation during the growing years can help us determine whether we simply monitor development or whether treatment could be beneficial.

Can peptides help repair early cavities?

In some cases, very early tooth decay may be treated before it progresses into a traditional cavity.

Self-assembling peptides, including P11-4, are being studied and used in minimally invasive dentistry to support enamel remineralization in certain early, non-cavitated lesions. The peptide creates a microscopic framework that may help minerals rebuild weakened enamel from within.

But early detection is everything.

Once tooth decay progresses into a true cavity and tooth structure is lost, a dental filling or restoration may still be necessary.

This is why routine dental exams matter. Finding early cavities and enamel demineralization sooner can give your dentist more options to preserve natural tooth structure and potentially avoid more invasive treatment.

At DiPilla Dental, we believe modern dentistry should focus on prevention, early detection, and preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible.

Would you want to know if an early cavity could be treated before it needed a filling?

What people see: the smiles, the results, the precision.

What they don’t see: the years of mentorship behind it all.

For Dr. DiPilla, dentistry has never only been about the work he does with his own hands. It’s also about what he teaches, what he passes down, and the time he invests into helping his associates become better clinicians.

The conversations between patients.
The case reviews.
The questions.
The corrections.
The experience being shared in real time.

Great dentistry isn’t built in isolation. It’s built through mentorship, collaboration, and a commitment to constantly getting better.

The work you see is only part of the story.

The most boring classes in dental school might actually be the most important ones.

Occlusion. Anatomy. Function. Materials. Biology.

They may not feel as exciting as learning how to create a beautiful smile, but in cosmetic dentistry, they’re everything.

Because a smile can look perfect in a photo and still fail if the bite is wrong, the function is ignored, or the foundation isn’t healthy.

Great cosmetic dentistry isn’t just about making teeth look better.

It’s understanding why teeth are shaped the way they are, how they come together, how forces are distributed, and how to create a result that looks natural, feels comfortable, and lasts.

The artistry gets the attention.

The fundamentals are what make the artistry work.

Dr. Robert DiPilla joined FOX 2 Detroit to talk about the hidden and added sugars showing up in everyday snacks and drinks, and what parents should actually be looking for when choosing options for their kids.

A few extra grams here and there can add up quickly, especially when those foods are being eaten every single day.

This Reel is just a short clip from the full 6-minute conversation.

Back with another round of Myth Busting with Dr. Ramos 🦷

MYTH: Whitening your teeth damages them.

When done correctly, professional teeth whitening is designed to safely lift stains without damaging healthy enamel.

What can cause problems? Overusing whitening products, whitening too frequently, or using products incorrectly. That’s when sensitivity and gum irritation can become an issue.

The key is knowing what you’re using, how often you’re using it, and whether your teeth are healthy enough to whiten in the first place.

Don’t let the myths keep you from a brighter smile. ✨

Some cases are about more than the final result. They’re about how you think through the case from the very beginning.

One of the things Dr. DiPilla is most passionate about is teaching and mentoring the next generation of dentists. In this new case journey, we’re taking you behind the scenes as Dr. DiPilla works alongside his associates to evaluate, plan, and treat a more complex case.

We’ll be breaking down different pieces along the way, including the bite, collapsed vertical dimension, constricted envelope of function, treatment planning, and the decisions that go into creating a result that is both functional and beautiful.

Follow along as we take you through the case step by step and show what mentorship in dentistry really looks like.

Straightening only the top or only the bottom teeth might sound simpler, but your bite doesn’t work in halves.

Your upper and lower teeth are designed to function together. Moving one arch without considering the other can change the way your teeth meet, affect your bite, and even create unnecessary wear over time.

At DiPilla, we don’t just look at what appears crooked. We look at the entire mouth, the bite, function, balance, and long-term health before recommending Invisalign.

Because the goal isn’t simply straight teeth.

It’s a smile that looks good, feels good, and functions the way it should. 🦷

DENTAL MYTH: “Bleeding gums are normal.”

Dr. Kevin Ramos is busting this one.

Your gums shouldn’t regularly bleed when you brush or floss. 🦷 Bleeding can be a sign of inflammation, often caused by plaque buildup or early gum disease.

And no, seeing blood doesn’t mean you should stop flossing. It may mean your gums need more attention, not less.

Healthy gums shouldn’t be something you have to guess about.

Save this for your next dental checkup and send it to someone who thinks bleeding when they floss is “just normal.” 👀
