Dental emergency while traveling? Here’s what to do:

If you chip a tooth, lose a filling, or experience sudden tooth pain, rinse with warm water and gently floss around the area to remove any trapped debris. Use over-the-counter pain relief if needed and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Avoid chewing on the affected side and stick to soft foods until you can be seen.

If a tooth is knocked out, keep it moist (in milk or saliva if possible) and seek dental care immediately.
