A good rule of thumb is to start flossing as soon as two teeth touch. Once teeth are close together, a toothbrush can’t always reach the spaces in between, making flossing an important part of preventing cavities and keeping gums healthy.

Parents can help with flossing until children have the coordination to do it well on their own—usually around ages 8–10, though every child is different.

Healthy habits start early, and a few minutes of flossing each day can help set the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles. 😁
