Lumbertown Dental Wellness

Lumbertown Dental Wellness You can't ignore either for good health. Prevention has always been the basis of the practice. It is better to be proactive than reactive.

We are a general dentistry office contributing to complete health by providing non surgical treatment for "man kinds most rampant dangerous disease" - periodontal disease as well as for obstructive sleep apnea. Besides providing quality dentistry, the means for it to last as long as possible is our goal. Sleep Apnea and the infection of periodontal disease are major risk factors for heart attack,

stroke, diabetes and a host of other major health problems. Centers for Dental Medicine are setting a new standard of care for periodontal disease. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine in February 2006 published new parameters of treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. An oral appliance can be the treatment of choice for mild to moderate sleep apnea and those who can't or won't use a CPAP machine. By developing an expertise in these two additional areas of maintaining good health we are being proactive. We believe you should not only live longer, but live better. Living better not only means you can enjoy life more, but there are then fewer dollars devoted towards disease care. Visit our other website: www.sleepmuskegon.com

Your dental visit is about more than just your teeth—it’s an important part of your overall health.

At every hygiene appointment, we include an oral cancer screening as part of your care. It’s a simple, painless process that allows us to check for early signs before they become serious.

Many people are surprised to learn that oral cancer can affect anyone. While to***co and alcohol use are known risk factors, HPV (human papillomavirus) is now a major contributor—and most adults will be exposed to it at some point without even knowing.

Because early-stage oral cancer often develops without pain, routine screenings are essential.

During Oral Cancer Awareness Month, it’s a great time to prioritize preventive care and stay proactive about your health.

Call today to schedule your appointment with our hygienist.
Your visit will include a comprehensive oral cancer screening for your peace of mind.

What Your Hygienist Really Does (It’s More Than Cleaning Teeth)

During National Dental Hygienist Week, we’re celebrating the role your hygienist plays in protecting more than just your smile.

Every visit helps you:
• Lower your risk of gum disease, tooth loss, and costly dental treatment
• Reduce inflammation linked to heart disease, stroke, and diabetes
• Catch problems early—before they become painful or expensive
• Screen for serious conditions like oral cancer and signs of sleep apnea (OSA)
• Maintain fresher breath and a cleaner, healthier mouth
• Support better blood sugar control if you have diabetes

Your hygienist is your partner in prevention—helping you avoid bigger issues and even identify life-threatening conditions early.

These visits aren’t just about clean teeth—they’re about protecting your health, your comfort, and your future.

Call today to schedule your dental hygiene visit and experience the difference.

Oral cancer doesn’t always cause pain in the early stages—which is why it can go unnoticed.

As part of Oral Cancer Awareness Month, it’s important to know what to look for.

Signs and symptoms may include:
• Lumps or bumps in the mouth or on the lips
• Red or white patches
• Sores that don’t heal
• Changes in tissue texture
• Difficulty swallowing or speaking

These changes can appear anywhere in the mouth—including the lips—and should never be ignored.

Many cases today are linked to HPV (human papillomavirus), which affects a large percentage of the population without obvious symptoms.

The good news is that oral cancer screenings are quick, painless, and performed during your routine dental visits.

If you notice any of these signs, schedule an evaluation right away. Early detection saves lives.
For routine care, call today to schedule your appointment with our hygienist—we’ll include an oral cancer screening at your visit.

Have you ever known someone who struggled with uncontrolled diabetes… or suffered a heart attack or stroke?

Gum disease may have been a contributing factor.

Your mouth is a gateway to your bloodstream. When gums are inflamed and bleed, bacteria can enter the bloodstream and trigger inflammation throughout the body.

That inflammation matters.

It can raise C-reactive protein (CRP)—linked to heart disease—and contribute to plaque buildup in arteries, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

In patients with diabetes, this inflammation can raise A1C levels, making blood sugar harder to control. When inflammation is reduced, blood sugar is often easier to manage.

Gum disease has also been linked to:
• Heart attacks and strokes
• Diabetes and elevated A1C
• Certain cancers
• Respiratory infections
• Dementia
• Pregnancy complications

Gum disease is often painless—but there are warning signs:
• Bleeding or tender gums
• A pink toothbrush
• Bad breath
• Gum recession or swelling

These are not normal.

Routine hygiene visits reduce inflammation and support overall health.

Call today to schedule your dental hygiene visit—and take a step toward a healthier body, not just a healthier smile… with fresher breath as an added bonus.

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month—a powerful reminder that early detection can save lives.

What many patients don’t realize is that an oral cancer screening is already part of your dental hygiene visit. It’s quick, easy, completely painless, and takes just a few minutes.

During your visit, we carefully check the lips, tongue, cheeks, and throat for any abnormal changes that may not be visible or noticeable to you.

Oral cancer can affect anyone—even those who do not smoke or drink alcohol.

In fact, HPV (human papillomavirus) is now one of the leading causes of oral cancer. It’s estimated that approximately 80% of adults will be exposed to HPV at some point in their lives, often without symptoms.

Because early-stage oral cancer is often painless, routine screenings are essential.

Call today to schedule your appointment with our hygienist.
We’ll perform an oral cancer screening as part of your dental hygiene visit.

💡 Fun Fact Friday — Did You Know?

Just like horses’ teeth can tell their age…
your smile tells a story too. 😁

As we get older, it’s completely normal for changes to show up in our smile. Some of the most common signs of aging include:

✨ Teeth becoming darker or more yellow over time
✨ Shorter-looking teeth from years of wear
✨ Small cracks or chips
✨ Worn edges or uneven smiles
✨ Old fillings or restorations that no longer blend naturally

The good news? A youthful smile is absolutely achievable.

Modern dentistry gives us beautiful options to refresh and restore your smile, including:

🦷 Professional whitening to brighten your teeth
🦷 Cosmetic bonding to repair chips and cracks
🦷 Porcelain veneers to improve shape, color, and symmetry
🦷 Clear aligners to straighten crowded or shifting teeth
🦷 Restorations to replace worn or aging dental work

At Lumbertown Dental Wellness, Dr. Jim Donley and our team love helping both men and women rediscover confident, healthy smiles — whether that means subtle improvements or a full smile refresh.

Because aging is natural…
but feeling great about your smile never goes out of style. 💙
