Dear MVFD Family,

The time has come for MVFD to close its doors, and as of 29 April 2019, we are no longer open for business.

We want to thank you for your patronage and for trusting us with your dental health. It has been such a privilege to get to know you, and we have appreciated seeing and talking with you regularly at our office! Each referral for your family and friends has been a fantastic compliment, and we are truly grateful for all you have contributed to our office.

NOTIFICATION
Patients who visited the office while Dr. Burrows was here will receive a letter notifying them of the office closure. The letter, mailed to the address in your patient record, provides instructions on how to obtain copies of or transfer your records, where to go for emergency care, and how to navigate this transition. Notices have also been posted on the office doors and here on Facebook so that patients have as many sources for information as possible.

FINDING ANOTHER PROVIDER
We recommend selecting and seeking the care of another dentist to continue your dental care and meet your restorative needs. Continuity in dental care and treatment is vital to your dental health and well-being, and often, recommendations from friends and relatives are great ways of locating a new doctor. Your individual patient letters will discuss the importance of continuing proper dental care, and the possible results of not doing so.

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month.

In the US, someone dies from oral cancer every hour of every day, and about 50,000 people are diagnosed with it each year.

The GOOD NEWS is that oral cancer can be treated if it is diagnosed early! The key is to be aware of the risk factors and symptoms.

Some risk factors include:
- To***co use
- Alcohol use
- Exposure to HPV

Symptoms include:
- White or red patches inside the mouth
- Sores that don't heal or bleed easily
- Abnormal lumps
- Hoarseness, sore throat
- Difficulty chewing or swallowing

You can perform self-exams at home, but it is also important to have your dentist examine your mouth on a routine basis to look for signs of oral cancer.

Would you like more information about oral cancer, prevention, risk factors, treatment, etc? Comment below with questions, and we will answer!

Here's to your health. πŸ˜‰

A follow-up to our poll about brushing:

Dr. Burrows says the best time to brush your teeth is about 30 minutes after you've eaten a meal. Here's why:

- Bacteria in your mouth produce acids that erode the enamel on your teeth. If you do not brush, those acids eventually cause substantial damage to your teeth and can lead to cavities.

- After about 30 minutes, your saliva can neutralize the pH of those acidic waste products. At that point, it is safe to brush your teeth and clean out all the debris left by whatever you ate.

- Brushing before your saliva has had the opportunity to neutralize those acids essentially makes your toothbrush very abrasive to your teeth, which speeds erosion of tooth enamel and makes your teeth vulnerable to cavities. If you must brush right after eating, try drinking a glass of water prior to brushing to rinse away as much of the acids as possible.

Did you know any of this? Have you heard it before?

Happy brushing! πŸ˜‰
