Designed, not assumed.

This smile wasn’t restored with one technique.

And that was the point.

We started with Invisalign to create the foundation—not simply to straighten the teeth, but to put them in a better position for what would come next.

Then we designed.

Before touching a tooth, we tested that design with a trial smile. We could see it in her mouth, in her face, and in her smile before making anything permanent.

Only then did we decide what each tooth actually needed.

Some allowed us to work additively with prepless ceramics.

Others, because of existing dentistry or structural needs, were better treated with traditional crowns.

Different teeth required different approaches.

But they all followed the same design.

Align. Design. Test. Restore.

The result isn’t about Invisalign, prepless veneers, or crowns.

It’s about knowing when—and why—to use each one.

A two hour drive.

Not for veneers.

For a chance to see what’s possible before making a final decision.

One of my favorite parts of smile design isn’t the final photo.

It’s the moment a person sees their “trial smile” for the first time.

Before the porcelain.
Before the bonding.

Just a conversation about who they’ve been and who they could become.

That’s why we slow the process down.

Because the most important decisions are not made with the handpiece.

They are made before it’s ever touched.

A few years ago I thought Deliberate by Design described the way I approach smile design.

This summer reminded me it’s much bigger than that.

State tournaments aren’t won in July.

They’re built in cold spring practices or beating the heat indoors on the turf.

They’re built in conversations after tough losses.

They’re built by choosing one more rep when nobody is counting.

They’re built by paying attention to details that never make the highlight reel.

That’s true in baseball.

It’s true in business.

It’s true in leadership.

It’s true in family.

Excellence isn’t accidental.

It begins with intention.

That’s what Deliberate by Design has come to mean for me.
