A question I often hear is, “Why does orthodontic treatment cost thousands of dollars instead of hundreds?”

The truth is, orthodontics involves much more than simply putting braces or Invisalign on teeth!

Behind every treatment is years of specialty training, advanced technology, high quality materials, and an experienced team working together to create healthy, lasting results.

Running a modern orthodontic office also comes with major behind the scenes costs like CBCT imaging systems, digital scanners, equipment, instruments, software, repairs, continuing education, utilities, and staffing.

Every smile and bite is different, which means every treatment plan must be carefully customized for each patient.

Creating a beautiful smile is about more than just straightening teeth. The gums also play a major role in smile aesthetics and oral health!

This patient of mine had a “gummy smile,” where excess gum tissue covered too much of thier teeth. As part of their orthodontic treatment, we performed a gingivectomy to help reshape the gums and improve the balance of their smile.

These types of aesthetic services are always optional, but for the right patient they can make a huge difference in helping someone achieve their dream smile.

A gingivectomy may also help:
✅ Improve smile symmetry
✅ Make teeth appear more proportional
✅ Reduce areas where plaque and bacteria can collect
✅ Support healthier gums overall

Back in 2023, I had the opportunity to travel to San Salvador, El Salvador on a mission trip with some of my DJO team through People Helping People.

This organization helps provide healthcare, dental care, food, shelter, education, and affordable homes for families in need around the world.

During our trip, we placed braces on 22 kids and adults, delivered food to shelters, visited and prayed with patients in the cancer center, and spent time at an orphanage.

When we upgraded our panoramic x-ray machine to a new CBCT 3D x-ray system, we felt called to donate our previous unit to their healthcare center in San Salvador.

Thankfully, after being shipped overseas, God got it there safely. 🙏

Experiences like this remind us how blessed we are to serve both our local community and others around the world whenever we can. 💙

Your headache is not always coming from your head! Sometimes, the source is your jaw...

The TMJ (jaw joint) shares nerve pathways with your face and head. When the joint becomes irritated or overworked, pain can travel and feel like a headache.

This is called referred pain.

That’s why TMJ issues can feel like:
• Pain in the temple
• Ear pain or pressure
• Eye discomfort
• One-sided headaches

Common causes of TMJ pain:
• Bite not lining up properly
• Jaw tension or stress
• Overuse of the jaw
• Clenching or grinding

If you wake up with headaches or your headache is one-sided and gets worse when chewing or talking, your jaw could be the cause.

Don’t just treat the headache. Treat the source!
