THIS vs. THAT 🦷✨

Manual or electric? Water flosser or string floss?

Here’s the thing: there isn’t always one “right” choice.

The best oral hygiene routine is one that fits your individual needs AND one you can stick with consistently.

🪥 Manual toothbrush? Great!
⚡ Electric toothbrush? Great!
💦 Water flosser? Great!
🧵 Traditional floss? Great!

What matters most is how effectively and consistently you’re using your tools.

As a holistic dental practice, we believe oral care should be personalized—not one-size-fits-all. 🌿 Your dental health, lifestyle, preferences and individual risk factors all matter.

Your tongue, lips, and facial muscles are doing a LOT more than you realize!
That’s where myofunctional therapy comes in.

Myofunctional therapy focuses on improving the strength, coordination, and function of the muscles involved in things like tongue posture, swallowing, lip posture, and breathing.

Why does that matter? 🤔

Because oral function is connected to more than just your teeth. In the right patient, addressing muscle patterns may complement orthodontic treatment and other care focused on breathing, sleep, and oral function.

✨ It may be helpful for concerns such as:
• Mouth-open posture
• Atypical swallowing or tongue thrust
• Certain speech/oral-motor concerns
• Difficulty with nasal breathing
• Snoring or sleep-related breathing concerns
• Certain orthodontic or bite-related concerns

And just like building any new habit, consistency matters! Exercises are typically practiced regularly so the muscles can learn new patterns over time. 💪👅

Most importantly, myofunctional therapy isn’t a “one treatment fits everyone” approach. A proper evaluation helps determine whether it’s appropriate for you or your child.

Healthy smiles aren’t just about how teeth look—they’re also about how the mouth functions. 🌿✨

Can you remineralize your teeth? YES—especially when you catch things early!

Your enamel is constantly going through a process of demineralization and remineralization. When acids from bacteria, foods, and drinks repeatedly attack the enamel, minerals can be lost. But saliva and the minerals available in your mouth can help restore minerals to the tooth surface.

A good remineralizing routine may help:

✨ Support and strengthen enamel
🦷 Protect against further mineral loss
❄️ Reduce sensitivity when the underlying cause is enamel exposure
💪 Support the early stages of enamel repair
🚨 Help stop or reverse very early, non-cavitated areas of demineralization

How to support remineralization at home:

1️⃣ Brush gently 2x a day with an appropriate toothpaste like these above
2️⃣ Clean between your teeth every day.
3️⃣ Keep sugary and acidic foods/drinks from being an all-day habit.
4️⃣ Drink plenty of water and support healthy saliva flow. 💧
5️⃣ Follow your dental professional’s recommendations for remineralizing products.

⚠️ Important: Remineralization can help early mineral loss, but it cannot rebuild a tooth once a true cavity (cavitation) has formed. That’s why catching changes early and keeping up with dental exams is so important!

Your enamel deserves daily support—not just when something starts to hurt.

Have you heard of mouth taping?

At our holistic dental office, we recommend mouth tape as a tool to encourage nasal breathing during sleep for appropriate patients.

Nasal breathing plays an important role in oral and airway health. Habitual mouth breathing can contribute to dry mouth, morning breath, oral irritation, and may be associated with sleep and airway concerns.

Mouth tape isn’t about forcing your mouth shut. Instead, when appropriate, it can serve as a gentle reminder to keep the lips together and encourage nasal breathing.

But here’s the important part: mouth taping isn’t right for everyone. If you have trouble breathing through your nose, significant nasal congestion, loud snoring, or possible sleep apnea, you should be evaluated before trying it.

We believe in looking beyond the teeth and understanding the bigger picture of oral health, breathing, sleep, and airway function. 🦷🫁💤

Have questions about mouth breathing or mouth taping? Send us a message or schedule a visit — we’d love to help you understand what’s best for you.

Did you know vitamin D plays a role in your dental health?

When we think about vitamin D, we often think about bones—but it can also be important when we think about the health of your mouth.

Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and plays an important role in bone metabolism and immune function. Those functions matter because your teeth rely on healthy supporting bone and tissues. 🦴✨

But here’s the important part: taking vitamin D isn’t a magic solution for preventing cavities or gum disease. Your oral health is influenced by many factors, including your hygiene routine, nutrition, genetics, medications, and overall health.

And not everyone needs a vitamin D supplement! If you’re concerned about your vitamin D levels, talk with your healthcare provider about whether testing or supplementation is appropriate for you.

Think of it as part of the bigger picture: taking care of your whole body can support taking care of your smile. 🤍

Parents, are you using the right amount of toothpaste for your little one?

A little goes a long way! ✨

👶 0-2 years: Use a smear (about half of a grain of rice)

🧒 3-5 years: Use one grain of rice size.

👦 5+ years: Use a pea sized amount

And remember—more toothpaste does NOT mean cleaner teeth! 😄

For young children, an adult should help apply the toothpaste and supervise brushing to make sure they’re using the right amount and not swallowing large amounts.

💡 Pro tip: Encourage your child to spit after brushing rather than rinsing with lots of water.

Good brushing habits start early, and those little daily habits can make a BIG difference in your child’s smile! 🤍

Ever wonder what we use when we clean your teeth?
Fluoride-free Prophy paste.
What is prophy paste? It’s a professional polishing paste used during your dental cleaning.

We love this prophy paste made by Wonderful Dental because:
✨No Dyes- dyes are a messy additive that alters the consistency of prophy paste
✨No Fluoride- fluoride makes prophy paste to be more bitter and we avoid fluoride at our practice.
✨No titanium dioxide- titanium dioxide is used as a white dye. It makes prophy paste harder to rinse off and causes splatter.
✨Tastes great- this prophy paste is made by ice cream makers
✨Developed by a dentist

As a holistic dental office, we’re intentional about the products we use and take a personalized approach to your oral care. Our fluoride-free prophy paste is one of the ways we provide an option that aligns with our practice philosophy and individual patient preferences.

And while that fresh polish feels amazing, your cleaning does SO much more! We use your visits to evaluate your teeth and gums, monitor changes, remove buildup, and help you stay ahead of potential concerns. 🤍

✨ Healthy smiles start with the little details.

Have questions about the products we use during your cleaning? Ask our team at your next visit! 🦷🌿

For some patients, walking through our doors can take a lot of courage. Maybe they’ve had a difficult experience in the past, have dental anxiety, or simply haven’t felt heard or comfortable in a dental office before.

That’s why we believe dentistry is about more than just teeth.

It’s about listening, building trust, explaining what we’re doing, and creating an environment where you feel safe and cared for. 🤍

If we can help someone leave their appointment feeling a little more confident and a little less afraid, that’s a win in our book. 🥹🦷

To every patient who trusts us with their smile—thank you. We’re honored to be part of your journey. ✨

Why does one person need 10 Candid clear aligners while someone else needs 25?

The answer is simple: every smile is different!

Your number of aligners depends on several factors, including:

🦷 How much your teeth need to move
↔️ Crowding or spacing
😁 The position of individual teeth
🫦 Your bite and how your teeth come together
📈 How your teeth respond and track during treatment
✨ Any fine-tuning needed along the way

Think of each aligner as a small step toward your final result. Some smiles may only need a few steps, while others need more stages to achieve the planned tooth and bite movements.

And remember: more trays doesn’t mean a worse smile! It simply means your treatment plan requires more steps.

The goal isn’t to finish with the fewest trays possible—the goal is to create a result that is healthy, functional, and beautiful for YOU. 🤍

Considering clear aligners? Come chat with our team and let’s see what your smile may need! 🦷✨
