In a letter to federal officials developing the next National Action Plan on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria, the American Dental Association asked for dentistry to be recognized as a “distinct and important” element of antibiotic stewardship and called for strategies designed specifically for dental practice settings. Learn more at ADA.org/antibioticletter.

The ADA emphasized dentistry’s role in outpatient antibiotic prescribing and the need to be a steward of appropriate antibiotic use.

The ADA is urging House lawmakers to pursue health care transparency policies that strengthen accountability for insurers and Medicare Advantage plans and improve the patient experience, while avoiding requirements that it says are ill-suited to dental practices. The Association said it supports transparency measures that help patients understand expected costs and improve oversight of health plans, but emphasized that dental benefit payers control most of the information needed to determine what patients ultimately owe.
