How can I Treat Tooth Decay?

Treatments include fluoride, fillings, and crowns. Severe cases may need a root canal (saving your tooth) or extraction (pulling your tooth).

If you suspect tooth decay, talk to your general dentist and set up an appointment. If caught early enough, the tooth can be saved.

What Are The Symptoms of Tooth Decay and How can I Avoid It?

There may be no symptoms but if untreated, decay can cause toothache, infection, and eventually lead to tooth loss (Extraction).

You can avoid tooth decay by practicing good oral hygiene. Remember to brush, floss, and rinse. Cut back on sugary and carbonated drinks, snaking, and acidic food and drinks.

Who is an Endodontist?

An endodontist is a dentist who specializes in saving teeth. Endodontists are specialists in root canal and endodontic surgery. They become specialists by completing two or more years of advanced training in endodontics following dental school. They perform routine as well as difficult and very complex endodontic procedures, including root canal treatment, endodontic surgery and special procedures to save teeth after traumatic dental injuries.

When you think root canal, you don’t think major league pitching...or do you?

Well that is exactly what happened for the Yankees baseball organization when their starting pitcher Domingo Germen needed an emergency root canal. German was originally “scratched from Wednesday's start [a couple weeks ago] in Seattle after he underwent an emergency root canal,” Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

Due to the last minute emergency Domingo was expected to be out for the game and they were unsure when he would be able to return. To their surprise, Domingo German had a successful procedure and although he did not start the game, he was able to pitch for three innings out of the bullpen. According to the yankees manager Aaron Boone “[German] felt really good and wanted to pitch…” and so Boone kept German available in the bullpen.To top it off they won the game with a 5 - 4 victory.
