Dr. Carstensen received his undergraduate diploma from Occidental College graduating with an AB degree in Biology. He graduated from Oral Roberts University School of Dentistry in Tulsa OK with his dental degree (1985) and went on to a year general practice residency at the Sepulveda VA Hospital in Southern California. In 1987 he purchased the practice that continues today in Milwaukie at Thiessen

Like many of his colleagues, Dr. Carstensen participates in continuous dental education having an emphasis in orthodontics, endodontics, CEREC technology and more recently in the field of dental implantology. Dr. Carstensen and his wife Adrienne reside in rural Clackamas County. He has three children, two sons and a daughter, that are now young adults. His spare time activities have included building projects (including the office he practices in and the home he lives in) and maintenance thereof, chasing a little white ball around the holey land (green) and visiting various National Parks throughout the West.
