It’s hard to put into words how grateful I am for the past 13 years of friendship, collaboration, and trust that have shaped my journey.

Because of a neck injury and subsequent right hand neuropathy, I can no longer treat patients clinically. While that reality is heartbreaking, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for this last chapter. I am deeply thankful for every moment spent chairside and for every person who made those years so very meaningful.

Today I handed my first baby, Lake Park Dental, over to the incredibly capable hands of Dr. Beau Schneiss and Dr. Jessica Messerschmidt. 💛 Beau brings kindness, skill, and steady leadership, and Jessica will continue caring for patients with the warmth and compassion she’s known for. I couldn’t ask for a better team to carry this forward.

I’ll continue my work and focus on teaching providers about airway health, both locally and across the country. You can find more about that at TheUntetheredWay.com

Allllllll the feels as I end this chapter and embark on the next.

With love,

Meggie

Did you know that your teeth's enamel is primarily made of a mineral called hydroxyapatite?

At Lake Park Dental, we're excited about the science-backed benefits of hydroxyapatite in modern oral care.

This naturally occurring compound helps remineralize tooth enamel, reduce sensitivity, and fight harmful bacteria—all without the potential downsides of some traditional ingredients.

Hydroxyapatite toothpastes and products work by filling in microscopic enamel defects and creating a protective barrier on your teeth. The result? Stronger teeth, less sensitivity, and a brighter smile!

Ask us about incorporating hydroxyapatite products into your daily routine during your next visit. Your smile deserves the best nature-inspired protection!

Is your child showing signs of crowded teeth soon after the first wiggly baby tooth?

Many parents hope these issues will correct themselves with time, but the truth is—they won't grow out of it, but they will certainly grow into it.

Early orthodontic intervention allows us to guide jaw development while your child is still growing, creating space for permanent teeth and potentially avoiding more complicated treatment later.

At Lake Park Dental, we believe in addressing orthodontic issues during the critical growth years- sometimes as early as ages 5 or 6. This proactive approach can mean shorter treatment time, less discomfort, and potentially avoiding extractions or surgery in adolescence. Plus, early intervention often leads to more stable, lasting results!

Every child's smile journey is unique. Schedule a check-up with our team today to discover if your child could benefit from early intervention. Remember—addressing these issues now means a healthier, more confident smile for their future!

Parents!

Did you know that snack choices can significantly impact your child's dental health?

At Lake Park Dental, we understand that convenient snacks are a part of busy family life, but many popular options can lead to cavities and other dental issues.

The best snack choices for healthy teeth are fresh fruits and vegetables, cheese, nuts, and yogurt without added sugar. These foods can actually help strengthen enamel and even neutralize harmful acids.

Meanwhile, sticky treats like dried fruits, gummy snacks, and hard candies can cling to teeth for hours, giving cavity-causing bacteria plenty of time to damage enamel.

Remember that when your child snacks matters too! Constant grazing throughout the day means teeth are continuously exposed to acids. Instead, try to limit snacks to designated times and always encourage drinking water afterward to rinse away food particles.

And don't forget - regular checkups at Lake Park Dental every six months help us catch any issues early. Call us today to schedule your child's next appointment!

Babies at the dentist? Yes!

Did you know it's recommended to bring your little one for their first dental visit by age 1 or within 6 months of their first tooth erupting?

At Lake Park Dental, these early visits are about so much more than just checking for cavities:

We examine your baby's oral development and jaw growth
We check for issues like tongue ties that could affect feeding or speech
We spot early signs of potential problems before they become serious
We gently clean those tiny teeth and demonstrate proper brushing techniques

The benefits of these early visits extend far beyond babyhood:

Creates positive associations with dental care from the start
Establishes a "dental home" where your child feels comfortable
Prevents dental anxiety that often develops when first visits happen during toddlerhood
Reduces the likelihood of extensive dental work in the future
Sets the foundation for a lifetime of good oral health habits

These first appointments are quick, gentle, and educational for both baby and parents! Let us help your little one start their smile journey off right.

Protecting your smile is a lifelong journey!

That's why at Lake Park Dental, we recommend dental sealants for patients of all ages. These thin protective coatings work wonders by creating a shield over the deep grooves in your teeth where decay likes to hide.

For children: Sealants provide crucial protection during those cavity-prone years when brushing skills are still developing. They shield newly erupted permanent molars when they're most vulnerable to decay.

For teens: During these busy years, dietary habits often include more sugary snacks and irregular brushing routines. Sealants offer an extra layer of protection when teens may prioritize everything but dental hygiene.

For adults: Even with good oral hygiene, some teeth have naturally deep grooves that trap food particles. Sealants can prevent decay in these hard-to-clean areas, potentially saving you from future fillings or crowns.

Simple, painless, and cost-effective—dental sealants are a preventive investment at any age! Call us today to learn if they're right for your family.
