How do we make sure there’s enough space for a future implant without extra trips to the office?

When a child is missing their permanent lateral incisors, orthodontic treatment often involves more than just moving teeth. We need to create the right amount of space and then hold that space until they are old enough for a dental implant.

Because implants aren’t placed while the jaw is still growing, we work closely with the patient’s general dentist to plan ahead and make sure the space is appropriate for the future restoration. That can mean some back-and-forth between the orthodontist and dentist as the patient grows and treatment progresses.

This is where DentalMonitoring can be especially helpful! Instead of requiring families to make extra trips to ouroffice just to check on space, our team can monitor the teeth remotely between appointments. It also allows us to share updated information with the dentist so they can see how much space is available and help determine how much space is needed for the future implant.

It’s all about planning ahead, communicating with the dental team, and making the process as convenient as possible for our patients and their families. 💕

Every case is different, but the goal is the same: create the best possible foundation for a healthy, beautiful smile for the future! ☺️

POV: RPE edition, Orthodontist vs. Mom 🦷😂

Getting an RPE can come with a LOT of questions
So… what can you actually expect?

It may feel weird at first. Your child may notice pressure, tightness, extra saliva, or that talking feels a little different. Eating can take some getting used to. Food can get caught around the expander, and softer foods may be easier during the first few days.

After a few days, things should be back to normal and they will not even realize it’s even there. What other questions do you have?
