You asked, we answered! 🦷
How often should I see a dentist?- here’s the honest answer.
There is not one answer for everyone—your mouth, health history, home care, and current treatment all matter. But here is a helpful guide:
🦷 Emergency care:
Do not wait for your next cleaning if you have significant tooth pain, facial swelling, a knocked-out or broken tooth, uncontrolled bleeding, or signs of infection. Call your dentist right away. Dental emergencies are always best addressed early.
👶 Babies and kids:
Your child should have their first dental visit when the first tooth comes in—or by their first birthday, whichever comes first. These early visits help us monitor development, prevent cavities, talk through habits like thumb sucking or mouth breathing, and make the dentist feel familiar long before there is a problem.
✨ Routine maintenance care:
For many healthy adults and children, preventive cleanings and exams every six months are a great starting point. Some patients may benefit from more frequent visits based on cavity risk, gum health, dry mouth, medical history, or how quickly plaque and tartar build up.
🪥 Active dental or gum care:
When you are in active treatment—whether that means managing gum disease, getting cavities under control, wearing Invisalign, treating an infection, or completing restorative work—your visit schedule may be more frequent. Those appointments are tailored to help protect your progress and keep small issues from becoming bigger ones.
The best schedule is not simply “every six months.” It is the one that supports your individual oral health, goals, and overall wellness.
