What is dry socket?

After a tooth extraction, a protective blood clot forms in the socket to help the area heal. If that clot becomes dislodged too early, the underlying bone and nerves can become exposed, causing a painful condition called dry socket.

Dry socket is uncommon but can occur during recovery, usually a few days after surgery. Symptoms may include increasing pain, pain that radiates to the ear or jaw, and an unpleasant taste in the mouth.

Following your post-operative instructions and contacting our team if your pain worsens can help ensure you receive the care you need and continue healing comfortably.
