Meet Dr. Joshua Carter!

Originally from Wi******er, Virginia, Dr. Carter is committed to providing comprehensive, patient-centered dental care in a comfortable, gentle, and judgment-free environment.

He graduated magna cm laude from Virginia Commonwealth University before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 2025.

Growing up working in his family’s dental laboratory gave Dr. Carter an early appreciation for the artistry, precision, and attention to detail involved in dentistry. That experience continues to influence his approach to patient care today.

Dr. Carter has also pursued additional training in implant dentistry and remains committed to continuing education so he can provide high-quality, personalized care.

Outside of the office, he enjoys vintage clothing, cars, music, and spending time with family and friends. He has also participated in Remote Area Medical outreach programs serving underserved communities.

We’re excited to have Dr. Carter as part of our dental team and look forward to helping you reach your dental goals.

Meet Dr. Jacob Sheppard!

Dr. Sheppard took a unique path to dentistry. Before becoming a dentist, he worked as a U.S. mail carrier, home inspector, and handyman before ultimately pursuing his childhood dream of becoming a dentist.

After relocating his family to Richmond, he graduated summa cm laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the VCU School of Dentistry. While in dental school, he served as class president and was recognized by the American Academy of Implant Dentistry for his excellence and skill.

Dr. Sheppard is committed to continuing education and regularly pursues advanced training so he can provide high-quality, comfortable care to his patients.

Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Sharon, their two children, and their dogs. He also enjoys woodworking, music, birding, baking, and giving back to the community through service and Mission of Mercy dental outreach.
