🐛Transformation Tuesday🦋
Parents always ask me, "When is the right time to take my child to see you?" A good rule of thumb is to follow the American Association of Orthodontists' recommendation to bring your child once they turn 7. The next question is always, "Isn't that too young?!" And my answer is always, "No!" And here's a good example of why...

This little girl first came to see me when she was 9 years old. [Some parents would still consider that too early.] At 9, she already had recession of the gums around one of her permanent teeth and mobility of this tooth as well. [Side note - mobility of permanent teeth is NOT good]. Fortunately, with an early Phase I treatment that took less than 1 year, we were able to

✅Eliminate her crossbite
✅Decrease the amount of recession
✅Stabilize her permanent tooth and eliminate mobility

Moral of the story: Trust your orthodontist. I would never do any treatment for my patients that I wouldn't do on my own boys if they had the same bite. If your child doesn't need early treatment, then we put them in our fun Observation Kid's Club and I keep checking them until they're ready. If they do need treatment, then you'll be happy you did it early and avoided bigger problems down the road!

Fun Fact: The brown color of the gums around this patient's teeth is called physiologic pigmentation and is entirely normal. 💁🏻‍♀️

🐛 Transformation Tuesday 🦋
I bring you the chronicles of the crazy canine. Sometimes, what I do is obvious from a glance, like a dramatic before and after or a life changing smile transformation. But sometimes, what I do is in the details... like this patient who first came to me when she was 11 years old. Her left canine was way up by her nose, and her oral surgeon father (who had followed the tooth's movement - or in this case non-movement - for 4 years) knew that the root was fused to the bone - the tooth would never come down. 😳

Option 🅰️ Extract the crazy canine and replace with an implant.

Option 🅱️ Extract the crazy canine and move all of those back teeth forward to close the space.

Option B was the winner!

✅ All the spaces were closed
✅ No obvious sign of a missing tooth
✅ No need for future implant
✅ Happy patient, happy parents
