At Dentistry of Miami, placing porcelain veneers is a popular way to enhance your smile. Porcelain veneers are thin laminates that are placed onto the front portion of your teeth to enhance the esthetics of your natural smile. Veneers can correct crowding, chipped, misshapen, or discolored teeth. Porcelain veneers are an excellent replacement for composite bonding, and the process is less invasive
than being fitted for crowns – porcelain simply covers the imperfections in your own smile. Porcelain veneers are extremely lifelike and hold their radiance, unlike bonding which, over time, can appear unnatural. Despite porcelain’s translucence, it is an extremely strong material. Veneers come in a wide range of tooth colors, so finding your perfect match is easy. At Dentistry of Miami, porcelain veneers and crowns are considered permanent restorations, and they can be expected to last for many years. Dr. Furshman uses only the highest quality materials for his porcelain veneers to ensure that they remain brilliant and stain-free long into the future. Another benefit of veneers is that there are no food restrictions - once they are cemented you can eat normally (apples, corn on the cob, etc.). Being a minimally invasive procedure, veneers are convenient for those who want to correct flaws in the teeth in a short, simple process. Patients are able to have this treatment completed in only a few visits. In order to place porcelain veneers on a patient’s teeth, Dr. Furshman will first prepare each tooth by removing approximately half a millimeter of enamel on the tooth’s surface. To reduce pain and discomfort during this procedure, a local anesthetic will be used to numb the area. After the tooth is prepared, an impression of the teeth is made. This will help to provide a model of the tooth to create the veneer. While the permanent veneers are being made, a temporary one will be placed. Once the permanent veneer has been created, the patient will come in for a second visit with Dr. Furshman to have it placed on the tooth. During this process, the veneer will be trimmed and adjusted to fit properly. The teeth will be cleaned and polished prior to the placement of the veneers. Cement is used to secure each veneer to the tooth. Afterward, the patient is able to leave with a rejuvenated, brighter smile. If you have crowns on your front teeth, and are unhappy with their appearance, they can be replaced at Dentistry of Miami with porcelain veneers to give you a more natural, attractive smile. Porcelain veneers can also be used for cosmetic repositioning (additionally referred to as “instant orthodontics”) as an alternative to traditional metal braces or retainers.
