This patient came to us with:

Katie traveled all the way from Washington State to correct her gummy smile, and this case is one that is especially close to Dr. Frost’s heart.

What makes this case such a great teaching moment is the level of intention that goes into every single decision before treatment even begins. From selecting the right bracket torques to prevent flaring during intrusion, to the strategic placement of TADs early in treatment to shave months off the overall timeline, every detail was planned with the end result in mind.

Two anterior TADs and two infrazygomatic crest TADs worked together to intrude both the front and back of her upper arch simultaneously, gradually correcting her gummy smile and leveling out the cant that had been affecting the symmetry of her smile.

One of the most important tools Dr. Frost uses throughout this process? Two specific photographs to track progress and make sure intrusion never goes too far, because over-intruding can actually age a smile by reducing how much tooth shows during natural conversation.

This patient came to us with:

When Tempestt came to us she had two things on her mind, her gummy smile had always made her self conscious, and her TMJ symptoms had been affecting her daily comfort.

During her exam Dr. Frost identified something else that was quietly contributing to both, a canted smile that needed to be corrected alongside everything else to achieve the balanced, harmonious result she deserved.

We started Tempestt in a full set of braces and light wires, and two months into treatment placed four TADs to begin the intrusion process that would address her gummy smile and start bringing everything into better balance.

Over the next ten months we worked steadily on her intrusion, carefully and intentionally, until we reached our goals. Her TADs were then tied off to hold her progress while she continued advancing through her wires and elastics.

At her debond we finished with detailed hard tissue contouring to polish off every final detail, followed by a gingivectomy on her upper 5-5 to expose more crown height and reveal the full, sweeping smile we had been building toward from day one.
Six weeks later Tempestt came back and her results were absolutely beautiful. 🩵

What makes Tempestt's case so special is that she came in carrying two very real concerns, how her smile looked and how her jaw felt. And she's leaving with both resolved.
