For those of you that do closed try impressions with Straumann transfer copings please reconsider using the plasitc caps. It's an know issue with dental labs that the caps can twist in the impression when removed from the mouth. When we try to push the transfer coping with the analog into the impression the displaced cap can create havoc. Often the transfer coping feels like it's all the way home but it's not. It can catch the lip of the plastic cap and curl it in enough to prevent the transfer coping sliding in fully. This will give a false position for the height of the analog making it deeper in the model. Without the cap, the transfer copings still have enough retention to hold the transfer coping provided the impression has good coverage around the transfer coping. Using heavy body impression material helps too. This issue seems to happen often with the BLX.

This fellow had worn his teeth down to nubs over time. He didn't remember what he looked like with teeth. When we were done he was ecstatic. We started with some smile design templates and then milled PMMA temps. He had some crown lengthening done to help with the preps and crown size and the bite was opened. The final result was satisfying for us to see how happy he was. We did 2 more single crowns to help with the occlusion and will probably need to a few more in the future.
