We just had to share a picture of this yucky little guy, because it illustrates an important point. Everything under the blue filter (applied to make it look a little less nasty, you're welcome) is calculus, AKA tartar. Look how close to the end of the root it got! This! This is why your dentist says you need a deep cleaning! Calculus buildup below the gumline will eventually cause enough inflammation that discomfort will result, but by that time, it may already be too late to save the tooth. The problem is that until it's really, really bad, there are no perceivable symptoms. Just like high blood pressure. So, just like high BP, get that perio fixed before it's too late! Karen was a friend of ours since almost the day that we opened, and she made our day more colorful and interesting evey time she visited. Rest in Peace, Big Mama, and know that you will be missed!

Here's a case we recently finished. The after picture was taken 24 hours after extractions, and shows the patient wearing their temporary dentures. A lot of healing still needs to happen, but this patient has a great smile the day after extractions! After healing a final set of dentures will be fabricated. Implants are the gold standard, but for patients with a limited budget, conventional dentures are still a good option if your teeth are in really poor shape, and dentures can be very esthetic! And, even if we go with dentures for now, implants are still usually possible later.
