OL came our office with protrusion, a deep overbite, and an impacted lower tooth. We treated her with braces and elastics. We also worked with one of our oral surgeon colleagues to get the impacted tooth uncovered so we could get it in position.

Loose brackets happen. In reality, the bonding can weaken for a variety of reasons, and we know it doesn't always mean that you were eating popcorn or taffy.

Although it is important to avoid the things that can cause them to debond, it is also important to let us know when one is loose so that we can get you in and get it repaired. It is generally not an emergency, but we want to keep your treatment on track.

Did you know? - Your smile may have more in common with your family than you think.

Many orthodontic concerns can indeed be inherited. Traits such as crowding, spacing, overbites, underbites, crossbites, jaw size, and even the timing of tooth eruption can run in families.

Genetics help determine the size and shape of the jaws, the size of the teeth, and how the upper and lower jaws relate to one another. For example, a child may inherit larger teeth from one parent and a smaller jaw from the other, which can contribute to crowding.

Genetics aren’t the only factor, though. Habits such as thumb sucking, prolonged pacifier use, mouth breathing, or tongue habits can also influence how the teeth and jaws develop.

So, if parents or siblings needed orthodontic treatment, it doesn’t necessarily mean a child will too—but family history can be a good reason to keep a closer eye on their developing smile.
